Hello everyone!
I have not seen a forum for COC's Fall 2021 ADN program, so I decided to make one for all applicants to ask questions, share stats, and talk about anything relating to the application process.
Multi-criteria screening points: https://www.canyons.edu/_resources/documents/academics/nursing/MULTICRITERIASCREENING101916.pdf
I believe I calculated 76 points.. I don't feel like this is as competitive, but I believe it is worth a shot.
Good luck to everyone applying!
Hi Greta! Im sorry to hear you’ve tried 6 times and still no luck. This was my first attempt and it was really hard getting that rejection letter. At first I felt good about the applicants being at 55. But after getting rejected, its hard to swallow, being there were only 55 applicants, it just felt sooo close. As with trying to get in to the generic RN program, I think its awfully tough. The number of applicants are probably 4x larger, and to compete with straight a’s. I was talking to my husband earlier about switching majors... it seems to be as hard to get into these local programs as going into medical school. Its ridiculous! I wish you luck this time around, Greta!
Hi slopez091!
Sorry to hear you didn't make it either. Hopefully next time around you get selected. You know, I turned my applic in Feb 26 and asked the next day whether it was a first come first serve basis like you were saying (and if Im not mistaken, like what it says on their timeline). Lutes said that it wasnt. It was pretty much meet the qualifications, do your application as instructed and you will be included in the lottery. Was wondering if you applied to any other schools? As I was telling Greta Heath, this was my first time ever applying. I didn't get to apply to other schools because I thought Mission wasnt doing lvn to RN this yr due to covid, then came to find out they did! I tried pcc, but saw that they required math to be completed, and silly me saved it for last since it wasnt a pre req, but a graduation requirement at coc. Goodluck to you slopez!

All good! I have 7 rejections from different schools this year and this is only the second time I’ve applied to COC. This semester I’ve applied to 14 different programs. I was accepted into a BSN program out of state. It’s amazing how hard it is to get into just an ADN program in CA. Good to everyone!

It's so hard to get into a nursing program in CA but elsewhere, it's not as difficult (that's what nurses from out of state have told me). I'm on the same boat. Been rejected and put on the waitlist once for an ABSN, but I'm sure that rejection letter is coming soon because only a few deferred their spots. I have a feeling I won't get into COC. My TEAS score is not high at all. I've been out of school for two years and only studied for the TEAS about 3 days. I mean I passed their "score requirement" but it's not competitive at all. Plus, I've been running around from one doctor to the other for my mom and it's been hard. I've been thinking of switching majors.
@Greta Heath This is my second time applying for COC too but my points are not as competitive, so I am hoping for lottery too. Have you looked at APU, National University, or MSMU? Privates are usually not an option for me but since being rejected to all programs the last two cycles, its getting discouraging. On the surface they seem super expensive but they offer a ton of scholarships that brings down the costs dramatically and if you qualify for financial aid then thats even better, cost-wise. MSMU only admits once a year but APU and NU have multiple start dates. If you don't want to have to leave the state, I'd look into them and see if they'd be a good fit. They are my backups if I don't start a program this Fall.

Hi there! Yes I have! I was rejected from MSMU and when I went to apply a second round, they canceled the ADN program. The date applications were supposed to open, they posted the announcement. It also happened to be the last day to apply for the BSN program. I sent in an incomplete application just for giggles. I will apply for the BSN again next round. Not familiar with APU. I’ll look into it. I stopped researching private schools when I found out how much WCU cost. Ouch! I still have 7/12 ADN applications to hear back from. COC being one of them. Fingers crossed for both of us. My points are average. I’m completing a CNA to up my points. Little by little...

Yeah, I definitely don't recommend WCU. It's wayyy too expensive! But the ones I mentioned, even though are private, they are non-profit. I know a few amazing nurses who went to WCU but I just can't justify that debt for myself. NU, so far has been the cheapest private that I've looked into. But APU isn't too bad, especially with their scholarships and financial aid options. They also offer multiple locations.

I did not know APU has multiple start dates? I was informed by a counselor that they admit once a year

Hey! So, I just started the application process with APU but in the email I just received from them says this for application deadlines, also the 3 locations they offer are High Desert, Inland Empire, and Monrovia:
Feb 1: for a May start
June 1: for a September start
Oct 1: for a January start

Is that for their ADN program only? If so, I wouldn't be able to go into their ADN program because I already hold a bachelor's degree. They'll immediately put me into their Entry Level Masters in Nursing program. This is Azusa Pacific University right?

Yes, this is Azusa Pacific University but no, not their ADN. This is for their BSN program. I'm not sure about a program for a second bachelors, sorry!

We won’t find out until Friday (and hopefully not later than that). Good luck to everyone!!
