Seriously. I have spent hundreds of dollars on books for my pre-req classes, 90% of which were never even used by the professor.
You can never sell them back to the school because they are going with a new edition every semester.
Now they have started this thing where they are selling the most expensive books unbound. So you have to put them in a binder. They say it saves you money ($10) but you cant sell them back and the papers tear out so easily in the binder no one wants to buy them used.
It's really starting to irritate me, I wouldn't care if the books were actually used to fork over the money, but I will spend $200/book and then the professor wants us to print us hundreds of dollars of ink/paper printing out their notes/power points because they don't like the book. Um, what?!
Go to slugbooks.com and type the isbn # and it'll give you rent/buy options from a bunch of places all on 1 screen. I love bookrenter..they usually have the cheapest prices and free shipping both ways! Chegg has pretty cheap prices too but shipping is $6. I've always received quality books from both of them..no major rips, water damage, or anything like that.
My school has started this new thing where they include some books for classes in with our tuition. My A&P 1&2 books were included in my tuition both times. I believe the price was just over $80 each. They were also unbounded and was the college edition. Some of my other classes had unbounded books and tons of access codes that had to be purchased. I do remember my Biology book being $200 and the professor said we would absolutely need it...not one time did we use the book!
Ugh I feel all of your pain. I go to a community college and most the books they use are (especially science book which are most expensive) special editions that were made specifically for the school. 9/10 times they don't accept sell backs and it's difficult (but not always impossible) to sell them on Amazon or Ebay because being that they're specifically made for our school they're of little use to students at other colleges. Such a scam.

There is actually an app that you can write notes or record to specific slides. Which is the reason most people print them out.
The app is called PaperPort Notes on itunes.
