College books are the biggest scams ever

Seriously. I have spent hundreds of dollars on books for my pre-req classes, 90% of which were never even used by the professor.

You can never sell them back to the school because they are going with a new edition every semester.

Now they have started this thing where they are selling the most expensive books unbound. So you have to put them in a binder. They say it saves you money ($10) but you cant sell them back and the papers tear out so easily in the binder no one wants to buy them used.

It's really starting to irritate me, I wouldn't care if the books were actually used to fork over the money, but I will spend $200/book and then the professor wants us to print us hundreds of dollars of ink/paper printing out their notes/power points because they don't like the book. Um, what?!

There is actually an app that you can write notes or record to specific slides. Which is the reason most people print them out.

The app is called PaperPort Notes on itunes.

Go to slugbooks.com and type the isbn # and it'll give you rent/buy options from a bunch of places all on 1 screen. I love bookrenter..they usually have the cheapest prices and free shipping both ways! Chegg has pretty cheap prices too but shipping is $6. I've always received quality books from both of them..no major rips, water damage, or anything like that.

My school has started this new thing where they include some books for classes in with our tuition. My A&P 1&2 books were included in my tuition both times. I believe the price was just over $80 each. They were also unbounded and was the college edition. Some of my other classes had unbounded books and tons of access codes that had to be purchased. I do remember my Biology book being $200 and the professor said we would absolutely need it...not one time did we use the book!

Moved on from Chegg when encountered account problems more than once (with some time in between experiences). Have found bookrenter to be great. Inexpensive, accurate, and fast service.

In the LPN program they had a nursing tote you had to purchase that included all the supplies necessary for the program. It was around $400 but had all the books required.

It had 4 books. Meg surg 1 and 2 was covered out of the same book.

something to do with a mixture of the acids & carbonation I guess...I've only seen it done with Coke, but I bet you could use about any soda... diet if the patient is diabetic I would imagine :D

I found an International Edition of my A&P textbook online for $55, the bookstore wanted $305 new... look up ISBN numbers and check prices online...p.s. most international versions have the exact same stuff in them but are usually soft cover..

Ugh I feel all of your pain. I go to a community college and most the books they use are (especially science book which are most expensive) special editions that were made specifically for the school. 9/10 times they don't accept sell backs and it's difficult (but not always impossible) to sell them on Amazon or Ebay because being that they're specifically made for our school they're of little use to students at other colleges. Such a scam.

I know. I've had a few books like that. They know how to get ya

I hate the books that are really thin but around $150.

Specializes in Med-Surg.

I rented my micro book $50 instead of 250. I'm stuck with my $300 A&P book because a new edition has come out. But at least that was used for two classes.

My chemistry prof emailed last week to tell us that she teaches from all editions of our textbook and not to bother buying it from the college bookstore (unless we really wanted to) because half.com had it for
