  1. I do both. I prefer to put pencil to paper. But I always have my phone on me and I like to have everything with me all the time so I make use of my google calendar. I love Plum Paper planners (tried EC), I have the ME Planner. I leave most of boxes blank and write in my class names. The other boxes I have printed are Home, Boys (my kids), Dinner (I write my weekly menu in there), and Work. It gives me a designated space to separate, and easily follow, each part of my life.
  2. I just turned 40 a couple weeks ago. There's moments I feel like I'm too old to start a new career, then I remember I don't like my job and will probably never been happy doing what I'm doing, so why not. I was enrolled in an ADN program 18 years ago but failed out second semester. I was pregnant during the semester. When it came time to apply for the next semester I found out I was 16 weeks pregnant while on the pill and breastfeeding. God had other plans for me. I've put my dreams on hold ever since and have regretted it daily. When my son cut off his fingers a couple years ago and we spent a week in the hospital I decided I'm going back, it's what I'm passionate about. Come hell or high water, I'm doing this, for me. You've got this. Look into the accelerated BSN program for those who already have their bachelors.
  3. I am eligible for admission into the program I failed out of, which is what the other school wants. Two strikes your out, you can't come back in, therefore you wouldn't be able to transfer into the other school. Some of the other schools will accept people (or allow them to apply) if they have failed out of another program. I failed one semester, so I was eligible for a second chance, but did not take it at the time. I am applying to that school, but wanted to apply to another as well.
  4. I want a Mac but can't justify spending the money. I'd suspect that you'll need at the very least Word so Chromebook won't work. One of my requirements is a scroll bar, this laptop doesn't have one and I hate it. I googled best "toshiba Laptops for college students" so you might try something along those lines. I've been eyeballing Sam's Club, they seem to have the best bang for my buck.
  5. I was a nursing student 16 years ago. First semester my instructors suspected test anxiety and I was encouraged and able to seek medical/prescription help and made a 96 on our final to pass the class. Second semester I transferred to a closer school and also became pregnant (despite preventative measures) my test anxiety meds did not agree with pregnancy and the dr pulled me off of them. Needless to say, despite all of my psychological calming methods I failed out by 1 point. When it came time to reapply for a retake of the semester I found out I was 16-weeks pregnant with #3, despite being on the pill and breast feeding. I decided God had other plans for this mom. Fast forward to January 2014 when my 16 yo cut off two fingers and mangled a third in a table saw incident. We had two amazing nurses during his 4-day. When the dust settled I was reminded of a dream I had once pushed to the back of my mind. So I've been on the road of retaking my pre-requ's and mentally, physically, and emotionally preparing to apply. Within a reasonable drive (70 miles or less) we have 3 ADN programs and 5 LPN programs. One ADN program (the farthest) requires a letter of good standing from my previous school. I plan on applying to my previous school when applications open on the 15th. Do you think that requesting a "letter of good standing" will have a negative impact on my application? The previous school is my preference, aside from that fact that I only get one chance and that is stressing me out (IF I get in). It's half the distance of the other two. I am also planning on applying for two of the 5 LPN programs. One of which is at the same school and campus as the school I failed out of and am reapplying for. Do you think this will impact the ADN application process negatively by applying for the LPN program at the same school/campus?
  6. I'm a toshiba satellite lover. I've got HP inexpensively for the boys to do schoolwork on (we homeschool with an online curriculum) and I HATE it, but then again I'm not a fan of HP products. I spent some time researching this morning and this is what I found; you want a minimum of 1.7GhZ or an i3 processor or better. Stay away from a Chromebook, you can't download any software. Also stay in the 15" or smaller range if you'll be toting it around. I've been looking at weight as well, books are heavy enough. I haven't decided which one to get yet but I know I've got to get one soon, three on one computer isn't cutting it.
  7. There is actually an app that you can write notes or record to specific slides. Which is the reason most people print them out. The app is called PaperPort Notes on itunes.
  8. I just finished College Algebra with a B after 20 years. I took Intermediate as a refresher the first 8-weeks, and College algebra the second, both online. It was a class that seriously kept me from finishing any college degree. It is not required for the ADN program locally but I'd like to continue my education afterwards. My advice from a mom of three active homeschooled boys, working full time plus owning and running a side business. Spend at least an hour on algebra every single day. Use your resources in MML, also Khan and Mathway have excellent explanations. Believe in yourself and keep your eyes on your goal. Believe you will succeed and you will. Just stay positive, ask a lot of questions, and make sure you understand each concept. Do the homework and every opportunity for extra credit, just in case you need it. Get rid of your self-doubt it will help you succeed in not only algebra, but nursing school as well.
