College Algebra Fall 2007

Published

Is anyone else taking College Algebra this fall? I thought that if there were several of us we could start a sticky. I always notice a lot of stickies for science classes but not so many for math. Math is definitely a tough subject for me so it would be nice to have some support.

I start August 27. Anyone else???

I'm having trouble understanding the trouble that you're having. Could you post a problem?

Well..I think I get it...but what I was having trouble with was...

-4+5+? or -6+-7=? or -10-7=?

Sometimes I would change the wrong sign, or add instead of subtract...that's all...I think I got it though!! Thanks!

I got a 98% on the first test.:smiley_aa Sure, it was all review. Alright with me, since I haven't had math since H.S.

Lucky you! We got no review! A 98 is excellent... way to go! I only have three tests and 1 final... homework and quizzes are combined to form 10% of your grade and the rest is tests and finals. Wish me luck! Lol... hopefully I won't need it!

I'm taking Applied College Math online at Rio Salado Community College and today I had my midterm. It went great, I got two questions wrong and ended up with a score of 93%.

I was really nervous about this class because I never was a real hero when it came to math, or other sciences for that matter. But I noticed that growing up a little, helped a lot. Even compared to two years ago, I have a much better understanding of the subject and it's just so much easier this time around!

I'm excited about the rest of the class! The next lesson will be about Consumer Math. Whiii!

Well hello everyone, I am glad I am not the only one in this struggle. I start my class on the 24 of September. I am a little nervous because I am doing my online so I hope that I will do well.

Thanks

Yvette

Okay so I have some good news. I made a 100 on my first assignment! Yay! Too bad that one measly assignment will only end up being like 1% of my grade... oh well. I'm studying and doing practice problems 'cause my first quiz is on Monday. I'm not really stressing 'cause it won't be too much of my grade... and I understand the material pretty well. I have another assignment for this class due Friday so wish me luck! Good luck to all of you as well! How are ya'll doing so far?

Bad news. I failed my first quiz... along with half the class. But it counts as less than 1% of my final grade so it's not a big deal. And I guess I didn't really fail it... I just made a D... but that's still failing to me. So the quiz is over but I still have a homework assignment due on the same stuff so I'm thinking of going to the Math Help Center on campus here. The new stuff we started is definitely easier though... so that's good. Any one else having trouble? The exponents are killing me!

The exponents are killing me!

Why are they killing you? Can you articulate what you're having trouble understanding? They really are not that hard so there's just a hurdle that needs to be overcome in your understanding and it should be OK.

You really need to "get" exponents because they never go away and they're in lots of different fields of study.

Well wish me luck guys! Tomorrow is my first algebra test! It's on the first 2 chapters....oy vey!!! I was supposed to meet my tutor today..I went on my day off to brush up, but they booked 2 people for the same time!! And since the other person had her test right after...I just went home!! Ugghhhh I really needed that extra help right before!! So I've been home reviewing notes and doing the chapter summary quizes from the text. But there's just soo much we've learned!! All these different properties, simplifying, distributing....I hope I do well!!!

So tomorrow I have an hour before class...and I'll be trying to brush up on it more! I just REALLY wish I had my tutor...I booked this app. last week!!! Oh well.....

Ok...welll....just had the test...and....not too good!

I did so many problems yesterday, and did some before class at the math lab....but the test seemed so different!

I was doing the same problems....but my answers came out to decimal answers...which I knew was wrong!!

Then another one was like a1/2 =bh or something like that...and I went blank!! Soooo.....I'm usually not a negative person at all, but I know I didn't do too well on this test!!! So I'm gonna ask the teacher if there's some kind of extra credit I could do....

I thought I prepared....I guess I was focusing too much on certain types of problems instead of a little bit of everything!

Now I'm thinking...if I can't even handle this...how will NS be??? Sheesshh!!! I don't feel behind at all....just didn't go over EVERYTHINg like I should've.... Oy vey!!

I'm about 6 weeks into my Algebra class, and let me tell you that algebra is one of my least favorite subjects, which is one of the reasons why I elected to take it first and get it out of the way, so to speak.

We took our first test and to be quite honest, I bombed. I got a 54% and it was really frustrating. The great thing about this professor is that we get to take each and every test twice, and the better of the two scores is the one that applies to the final grade, so that gives me some hope.

If anyone else struggles with algebra, I came across a site that really helped me out in understanding this stuff, and its:

www.algebrahelp.com

It not only has an equation calculator, but it also has a step by step process to show you how it gets the answers. Its been a life saver, as my professor has a way of making things more complicated after explaining them. :lol2:

Hey all...nobody's written here in a while...so I'll give ya guys an update!

Well...today I was doing math for 5hrs today!!! before, during and after math class and with my tutor...and I'm going again to see my tutor tomorrow to brush up on things...

We have our second test next Monday..and I think I'm ready for it. It was a little confusing at first, but as long as I knwo what the teacher is asking for...and read slowly..I should be ok!

It's on linear equations, and graphing them...lots of graphing!....some word problems where you mix liters and come up with a pure solution...things like that. I think I should be ok!

How is everyone else doing?
