Is coffee your medicine? How many cups of coffee do you drink per day?

They say that coffee drinkers, compared to nondrinkers, are:

  • less likely to have type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and dementia
  • have fewer cases of certain cancers, heart rhythm problems, and strokes

Nurses are 70% coffee and 30% awesomeness. :) Good combination, I think.

I make it extra sweet with lots of milk at work, and I drink it fast because having the time to sit down, sip and write on a chart is akin to calling it a "quiet" night and all sorts of havoc will happen so I don't get back to it until it's cold and nasty. Lately I have only been pouring up a half cup just because I hate to waste it.

coffee is wonderful for my mind and soul when 0300 rolls around....just enough to keep me sharp and fueled for my shift "homestretch"....all in all I drink about six cups per day....

Was feeding a baby last night while she was getting an IV caffeine bolus. First time I ever wanted to steal a patient's medication.

Oh to be able to account for the gallons of Coffee I drink a day.

My addiction is so bad that I stir my coffee with a pen if I forget the stirrer at the local coffee shop. I will walk 20 blocks to reach a Joe's or Hot & Crusty on a 15 minute break. No work or day ever begins if I have not had two cups of coffee..

Top that with my addiction of espresso beans, caffeine pills, tea, etc...I know I am at right for CHF. LOL

First off, I really don't drink very much coffee...HOWEVER!!

The past year and a half of nursing school as "drove me to drink" so to speak. I drink it every day before my clinicals and sometimes before my early classes...

IT IS VITAL! lol

At least two pots per day. I justify it because I use half milk in every cup so it's healthy calcium intake. I can drink coffee and go straight to bed, no problem. Love the picture--I always joke about needing a coffee IV!!

My screen name is probably comment enough, but I was the owner of a coffee house before the economy tanked me. Now I'm a Nursing Student. You can imagine how much coffee I go through. I'm waiting for my family to hold an intervention, but I think they believe its safer to their health to just let me have the java.

I used to manage an Italian Coffee shop, and as much as I love it, the acidity in coffee gives me heartburn. So now I just take Guarana supplements as needed:)
