I'm starting this thread for everyone applying for COC's spring 2014 RN program. Please feel free to join in. We're all in this together! For anyone who's thinking of applying, the deadline for turning in your transcripts and requesting your prerequisite evaluation is tomorrow!
I'm an LVN hoping to get into the LVN to RN program. I applied last year and received an email notifying me that I qualified for the program but that they didn't have the required 20 qualified LVN applicants to offer the class. Booo hooo hooo... Oh well, I completed all of the General Ed classes in the meantime and have my fingers crossed for this time around :-)
I'm a little nervous about the TEAS V test and am starting to study for it. I read that the test is pretty challenging. Yikes!
I look forward to hearing from my fellow nail-biters!
When I took mine it took 8 hrs... -___-. It's kind of hard to explain, but in my class we also learned about earthquakes and watched videos that were like 1.5 hrs long. So most likely you will be there for 6 hrs. In my class you learned how the patients sometimes make alcohol to drink from the hand sanitizer and got to use real fire extinguishers. The class is kind of boring, but there are a couple of things that are good to learn or brush up on.
PS the COC CSUN emails have been sent! Check to see if you were accepted. I hope you all were... I was :)

Thanks for the info! I'll prepare for a very long day...
I didn't receive an email about the COC to CSUN program. I called the nursing office but they are already closed for the day. I received an email on Wednesday asking me when I was going to complete the critical thinking course. I emailed them back that I planned to take the course in the winter session. I don't know if this has anything to do with not receiving an email today. Anyone else in the same boat?
I should add that I don't see how they could send those of us who haven't yet completed the CSUN prerequisites (IGETC or CSU-GE, chemistry, statistics, and critical thinking) an email stating that we are accepted into the program. Perhaps they will wait until we have completed the CSUN prerequisites to officially notify us that we have been accepted. If anyone hasn't completed the CSUN prerequisites and received an email that they were accepted into the program please let me know :-)
Hi 2dawn
I got my email earlier today and was accepted into the CSUN program. However, the email made it very clear that CSUN had the final say based on their review of your transcripts. CSUN will require additional copies of your transcripts for this winter and spring of '14 if you are planning on taking pre-reqs during this time. For the record, I do not have statistics nor chemistry. However, the dean emailed me to make sure that I was going to take stats this winter. She also made it clear to me that chem was not required for entry...but was in fact required to graduate. I already have communications and critical thinking complete.
.....also, not looking forward to 6 hours of fire class tomorrow, lol
My friend graduated from COC last semester and she sold me her uniforms for $50 (two pants and a top) which is less than buying just the top at the website, the uniforms are from the Dove website. they are in great condition in fact the pants look like new, top and bottom are size small. If anyone interested let me know.

Thanks for the info :-) I think I'll call the nursing office on Monday to find out why I wasn't chosen. Which class did you take to satisfy the critical thinking requirement? I'm just curious because when I checked out English 102 and 103, they both sounded dreadful!
Congratulations to everyone who got excepted into the CSUN program!
I took 102, and if I remember correctly it was exactly like 101....you will read several different mediums (play, short story, full novel, poem, etc) and will write an essay on each one. And even though I took this class online, a large portion of the class consisted of peer reviews and group discussions about each others essays. It will probably be a "walk in the park" compared to your statistics class that you told me about! :)

I understand your frustration. Here's my take on the issue. If you get accepted into the COC to CSUN program, within two years you will not only have your RN but also have one year of your BSN completed. If you decide on the two year program at Valley College, you will have an RN and will still need to complete two years of study to complete your BSN. I wish you all the best!
