COC - College of the Canyons - Spring 2014

Published

I'm starting this thread for everyone applying for COC's spring 2014 RN program. Please feel free to join in. We're all in this together! For anyone who's thinking of applying, the deadline for turning in your transcripts and requesting your prerequisite evaluation is tomorrow!

I'm an LVN hoping to get into the LVN to RN program. I applied last year and received an email notifying me that I qualified for the program but that they didn't have the required 20 qualified LVN applicants to offer the class. Booo hooo hooo... Oh well, I completed all of the General Ed classes in the meantime and have my fingers crossed for this time around :-)

I'm a little nervous about the TEAS V test and am starting to study for it. I read that the test is pretty challenging. Yikes!

I look forward to hearing from my fellow nail-biters!

LVN to RN CSUN applicants -

I just spoke with the nursing department and they will be sending out CSUN notifications to the LVN to RN students this week. They told me that they just received confirmation from CSUN that they will accept LVN bridge students into the program, which is why the notifications are being sent out later than the rest. Best wishes to everyone!

The CSUN notifications have been sent out! Check your COC email :-)

Does anyone know what the CSUN schedule is like as far as how many days a week the classes are and what the hours are, i.e. 9am to 3pm etc.?

Also, Scottienurse mentioned that financial aid isn't available for the summer classes. I really don't know anything about financial aid and am wondering if you can apply for a student loan and use the money for the summer classes?

2dawn, you should be able to apply for a loan and use it. I'm counting on it!

erick -

Thanks for the reply :-) Good news!

Did everyone call to make sure their docs were in?

A day after I emailed them to the nursing department I got an email to confirm that they have received them. I sent them on Wednesday and got an email on Friday.

I got a call today from AVC and I got into their LVN bridge program (my first choice)!

I am giving up my spot at COC. I wish you all the best!

Chrrristinand, good luck!!!

Has anyone received their emails from the nursing professors yet?

Hello,

New to the forum, but started to follow recently.

I was an alternate until last week! I'm very excited and feel incredibly blessed to now have a seat in the program. I have a few questions as I'm starting to work on all of my certifications, titers etc.

How many patches do we need to get?

What's the tentative schedule looking like? (how many days we'll be in lecture, how many days of clinical)

Do we get summers off if we're not doing the CSUN program?

doodlebuggie,

Congrats on getting in!!

You need to order same number of patches as your uniforms ( ie. if you buy 2 uniforms than you need 2 patches)

For the schedule during the first semester, class is Monday thru Friday with 2 clinical days (I'm not 100% on the number of clinical days). The nursing courses have not come out yet on the Spring Schedule so I don't know what the times will be for the Spring. But, you can look at the Fall 2013 schedule under 'nursing science' to get a better idea of when classes are. The schedule is located on the COC homepage to the left or on my canyons :)

For the CSUN program: as far I know you wouldn't be getting the summers off :(

thanks, jessii427!

I'm really excited to start in February, though I do have to say I'm trying to take advantage of enjoying my freedom while I have it.

I was wondering though, is anyone here going to try and work while in the program? I'm trying to figure the schedule out to see if I might be able to work part time vs. quitting altogether.

Doodlebuggie,

I won't be working while in the program, only over the summers :) I know it's different for everyone, but I can't work and be totally focused on school that's this rigorous. If you think you can work than try it and see how you feel :)
