I'm starting this thread for everyone applying for COC's spring 2014 RN program. Please feel free to join in. We're all in this together! For anyone who's thinking of applying, the deadline for turning in your transcripts and requesting your prerequisite evaluation is tomorrow!
I'm an LVN hoping to get into the LVN to RN program. I applied last year and received an email notifying me that I qualified for the program but that they didn't have the required 20 qualified LVN applicants to offer the class. Booo hooo hooo... Oh well, I completed all of the General Ed classes in the meantime and have my fingers crossed for this time around :-)
I'm a little nervous about the TEAS V test and am starting to study for it. I read that the test is pretty challenging. Yikes!
I look forward to hearing from my fellow nail-biters!

Thanks for the info on Kaplan! You saved me a phone call :-)
I was under the same impression, that the transitions course was eight weeks and psych was eight weeks. When you say that, "some LVNs will need to wait until spring 2015 to begin the program," do you mean that some LVNs will need to wait until spring 2015 to begin the psych course?

What date did you apply to the program? It's my understanding that we will progress into psych according to the date that we applied and the number of seats available.
I called the nursing dpt too and what "Chrrristinad " said is true, they told me we do two years, LVNs start second semester no third semester so including transition program we end up doing two years just like a regular RN program.
Spring 2014 --- transition program (Whole semester)
Fall 2014 ------ only half of semester for psych (If any spaces availables but most likely we will be placed in a waiting list)
Spring 2015 ----- if you were in a wait list you start half psych if not you start med surge.
Long story short we might graduate till spring 2016.
Im not waiting that long so I'm going to valley college i live 5 mins away, Wish guys luck.
by the way my friend graduated from COC last semester and she sold me her uniforms for $50 two pants and a top they are in good condition size small. If anyone interested let me know.

I wish you the best! I don't blame you one bit! I'm on the wall now with COC after talking to her today ... I am number 24 on AVCs waitlist.. They are taking 21 this year , so if anyone declines their spot I have a chance of getting in they're starting this January... If I don't get in this year , I may decide to still just wait until next January for avc, because I am guaranteed a spot and their program is 12 months -- January-December. None of this "based on space available " talk :)
2dawn: I might do that too. I have a few classes left to take transfer transfer after I get my RN... Like statistics lol.. It's hard for me to make the decision now because if I do transition nursing 109 then I have to leave my job that I love... Which I was okay with, until I learned I have to leave my job and then possibly be on hold until spring 2015. Idk if that is the right choice for me. I guess I have a lot of thinking to do!
Sorry to butt in.. But from my understanding most CC that has a transition of LVN-RN that does require a transition class has that wait based on availability. A coworker of mine took hers at avc and she waited for about a year before they contacted her for space. By that time she decided to decline cus it took too long.

Avc accepts 20 lvn students once a year in January. They accept more if space is available... A friend of mine spoke to the director of admissions in the nursing dept and she said this year they have space for 21... You start in January for winter intersession for 5 weeks for the transition course, and then you advance in the spring to psych and med surg ect. And graduate in december.... It can seem like a long wait if you don't get called to start and have to wait a year... After reading your comment I wanted to clarify with avc that after you get into the transition you are guaranteed to progress in the spring... So I called the nursing office and asked and they said you will progress in the semester immediately following the transition as long as you pass the transitions class.

I was so excited about getting into the bridge program but after talking to -------------- from the nursing dpt, i was so disapointed because when i got a call from valley college i declined them. So i went today to Valley college and spoke to the nursing director and she gave me the opportunity to start spring 2014. I know i have to do the whole 2 yr program but at least i dont have to wait for a space to be available.

She said we won't know if we are going to be starting in the fall until a couple of weeks before fall registration begins.
