I'm starting this thread for everyone applying for COC's spring 2014 RN program. Please feel free to join in. We're all in this together! For anyone who's thinking of applying, the deadline for turning in your transcripts and requesting your prerequisite evaluation is tomorrow!
I'm an LVN hoping to get into the LVN to RN program. I applied last year and received an email notifying me that I qualified for the program but that they didn't have the required 20 qualified LVN applicants to offer the class. Booo hooo hooo... Oh well, I completed all of the General Ed classes in the meantime and have my fingers crossed for this time around :-)
I'm a little nervous about the TEAS V test and am starting to study for it. I read that the test is pretty challenging. Yikes!
I look forward to hearing from my fellow nail-biters!

I take as many online classes as possible so I'm taking my stats class at a community college in northern California. I spent three days trying to find a community college that had availability in their online class. The instructor had glowing reviews so at this point I'm thinking that it could've been worse!
If you go on the COC Nursing Department website and click on "ADN to BSN Option" it says, "Ten highly qualified students were considered for eligibility in the original cohort." I remember from the orientation, that I attended last year, they said that they had spots for two classes of thirty new ADN applicants as long as they had the funding. This year, they had, or exceeded, the minimum number of qualified applicants for the LVN to RN program. Putting it all together, with the information you were provided, it sounds like they accept ten applicants from each group for the CSUN program.

Thanks for the information on the uniforms! I'd almost given up!
They pick more than ten. Professor -------------- said so at orientation. When they first started they only picked ten. I can't remember if she said that they had 30 or 40 students currently doing the CSUN program! Typically the funding they receive must be used for specific programs and can't "transferred" over so I don't think the exceeded number of LVN applicants will change it! For example the only reason they have the CNA class now is because the Rupe Foundation donated money specifically for that program.
I just wanted to chime in. I am currently in the CSUN-COC cohort program and there are about 20+ students in the class. It is definitely in its early stages of development so don't be surprised if it is disorganized. There were more applicants but the main problem was money. You start in the summer and financial aid is not offered so the payment is out of pocket. The BSN program itself is very helpful for your med surge classes and it helps you get ahead of the game. The uniforms do tend to run a bit big so keep that in mind. Good luck to the new students! It is definitely a great school to be in.

I'm sorry. Apparently, the wording of my post was unclear. I hope that I can clarify. What I was trying to communicate is that if they accept ten candidates from each cohort of new applicants (thirty students per cohort with ten students per cohort offered the opportunity to take part in the CSUN program) equals twenty students in the CSUN program. Another ten candidates for the CSUN program from the LVN to RN program equals thirty students in the COC to CSUN program.

I love my Littmann model 3000 electronic stethoscope. I'm sure there's a newer model that offers the same features. I've had seasoned nurses borrow my stethoscope to verify that they heard what they thought they heard.

Thank you for your input! It's great to hear from someone who's been there and done that! You're input is greatly appreciated :-)
LVNs doing the bridge program:
I called the nursing office because I wanted more clarification on the progression into the program after Nursing 109...
For some reason I was thinking that the transition course was 8 weeks (the first half of the semester). And that if there was space available you will start the next class during the second half of
The semester (since it's 8 weeks)... She told me the transition class is approximately 16 weeks and that we won't be progressing to the program (assuming space is available) until fall, and that some Lvns will need to wait until spring 2015 to begin the program.... That is such a long wait!
I'm confused why their transition class is so long. I also applied to avc and their transition is done over 5 weeks in intersession.
I thought after we are done with the transition we would start fall semester with psych and med surge but only a few students, depending how many spaces they have available, at least that is what i understood. Ill be so upset if we have to wait till spring 2015 cuz i got accepted at Valley College for they regular RN program and i said i was going to COC :'(

Thanks for letting us know about the uniform website!!! Does anyone know if they run big or small?
