COC - College of the Canyons - Spring 2014

Published

I'm starting this thread for everyone applying for COC's spring 2014 RN program. Please feel free to join in. We're all in this together! For anyone who's thinking of applying, the deadline for turning in your transcripts and requesting your prerequisite evaluation is tomorrow!

I'm an LVN hoping to get into the LVN to RN program. I applied last year and received an email notifying me that I qualified for the program but that they didn't have the required 20 qualified LVN applicants to offer the class. Booo hooo hooo... Oh well, I completed all of the General Ed classes in the meantime and have my fingers crossed for this time around :-)

I'm a little nervous about the TEAS V test and am starting to study for it. I read that the test is pretty challenging. Yikes!

I look forward to hearing from my fellow nail-biters!

2dawn,

I'll definitely let you know!

Has anyone done their background check yet? If so, do we email COC the results or is it already sent to them?

Jessii- I initiated my background check this weekend... I think during orientation they said that the results would go directly to COC

Chrrristinad,

Ok thanks that's what I thought. I got an email from them a couple days ago saying that my background check has been completed and gave me the option to send it to a recipient so that's why I was asking.

Chrrristinad -

That's a good point! Maybe we don't use Kaplan for Nursing 109. It seems like Kaplan would be happy to bill us if we were going to need it!

I havent received anything from Kaplan either, so i guess we don't need it the transition. Im gonna email the nursing dpt just to make sure.

Hi all!

Just want to say good luck to all. I'm a COC Nursing alumni, and it was the best two years in education I have ever had.

Wootnurse,

Hello!! I just got into the program for this spring and am so stoked to start! I'm glad to hear that it was the greatest 2 years of education for you :)

I am wondering if you have any advice for us students just starting??

Jlwinkle -

Did you find out the time frame during which COC will accept titer tests? I just assumed that they wouldn't accept anything older than a year and had them redone.

Lucyleones -

Please let me know what they have to say about Kaplan :-) I'm all ears!

wootnurse -

Thank you! It's great to hear that you had an awesome experience at COC :-) Any advice that you could give to those of us starting in the second half of the program would be greatly appreciated also!

2dawn -

Yes!! I went there yesterday and surprisingly, they will accept them! Yay! I thought for sure 4-5 years was way too long.

Wootnurse-

Thank you!! Looking forward to it!

Jlwinkle -

I'm glad to hear that they accepted your titers :-) That makes your COC "to do" list a little bit shorter!

Hi again,

I would say definitely take advantage of the skills lab. I didn't so much and wish I had more time in the lab. Also, start looking for jobs now, sounds weird, but you will get a feel of what employers are looking for.

Good luck!

I got an email back from the nursing dpt about the kaplan email for bridge students "Luz – yes, you will be getting an email from Kaplan as well – I sent the bridge students’ information to them a bit later, so the payment information might be arriving to your COC emails a bit closer to the deadline."[COLOR=#1F497D]
