This thread is for those of us who are enrolled in a CNA course right now, and/OR will be certified between March and April. Here is where we rant, network, and/or brag about the way our course (s) are going, our experiences finding a job after our course/internship is completed, and what our plans are for the future (Nursing school, etc.).
We started this topic in another thread, lets keep this going! :heartbeat
Here is a little YouTube humor for all of us potential CNA's. A typical day in the life of a Certified Nursing Assistant :
I'm afraid to know what your job is if you think two 14 hour days in a row of a physically demanding job is so easy you are bowing down to me.Oh and no time for a quick shower. The two jobs are about 20-25 minutes apart.
Firstly, LMAO!
I was bowing down to you because I realized it was a demanding situation you are in. In other-words: it was a compliment.
Secondly, the shower comment was a joke.
Third, I have no idea how you saw a negative connotation in my post. I'll attribute this to your nerves..

Mostly stress. My Advanced Behavioral Neuroscience exam kicked my butt his morning, my world literature class is a mess (lack of time to read well enough and lack of that sort of a brain), and my other 2 classes at my 4-year university are slacking too. Then my bright self decided to add the nurse aid class on top of everything else for a grand total of 24 credit hours + working 20 hours a week. I'm gone 12 hours a day during the week and I work 4-9 on Sat/Sun (plus Mondays and Wednesdays). I have my nurse aid class Tuesday/Thursday evenings. I'm running rather thin. This clearly wasn't a very good idea, but I have a month left until I graduate with my bachelors so hopefully it will be all worth it then.
Hi everyone!! Back from my 1st full day of clinicals :)
Today we did perineal care for two females, helped them get dressed, transferred them from bed to wheelchair, changed their linen, and also help feed some of the residents. I got a chance to talk to one with dementia. And I felt sooo bad for her She cried on & off about her twin sister..a friend of her sister called her & said that she'd never be able to see her again (most likely the sister has died) but idk if the lady could comprehend that. She could feed herself though but she has to be reminded to do so. Tomorrow we'll be going to the sub-acute unit so I hope that goes well too :)
Wow.
This thread has grown so much since it first started! :yeah:I'm glad to see everyone taking interest in the forum & welcome.
I took a break from this forum for about a week just because things were getting a little intense with the CNA class and life in general. We covered most of the skills last week so I spent most of last week studying etc. For those of you who have kids, 9xs out of 10 your kids were out of school last week. I, unfortunately, had the pleasure of watching my 4 siblings for the entire day, EVERY day of last week then going to class at night for 3 1/2 hrs. So needless to say I had my hands full.
Last week my class also had to fill out our clinical forms for our internship. So I got that done. Today, I went to the doctors office- Peds (I'm still allowed to go to Peds?, LOL) and tried to get my physical for my internship filled out to no avail. They charged me $80 though! I still have to go to the lab for blood work. Then bring my immunization records; this means extra charges and a extra 1-2 weeks before I am done getting my physical taken care of. My internship starts on March 23rd :angryfire Slots are open 10 at a time. Humph.
Anyway, does anyone plan on becoming employed at their internship site or becoming employed before certification?
Besides all that ramble, i'm taking things a day at a time, but I am keeping sight of my plans. $$ is tight and I'm a little stressed but anything worth something takes a little struggle. Oh, and the entire $1300 for the CNA course is due before clinicals. I'm praying my income tax comes ASAP!
I will respond to you all and catch up after class tonight, or tomorrow morning. Good luck and keep up the good work guys!

I applied to and interviewed at the place where I will be doing my clinicals. They said once I passed my state test they would hire me if they had a position open. It seems like a great idea because they will have the ability to see you work before hiring you!
I was told that they were not allowed to hire me or have me work as a CNA until I had passed my certification exam / state test.

It will be.
I'm not going to play devils advocate and list how stressful and/or jam packed my life is in comparison to yours. Instead, I'll just tell you to hold on a little longer because you are obviously ambitious and it will be over soon. It will pay off.

How was it? was it what you expected? Better or worse? My sis in law is a PCT and although she meant well, she kinda got me prepared for the worst LOL..
Hello Everyone,
I have finally had my first CNA class today. We went over the first 2 chapters in the text book and watched a movie on the aging process. The instructor is nice and seems well versed in the collateral. My clinicals are not at the end, but rather interspersed within the program - about 3 times per week , 3 hours each time. Our clinicals are held at a private LTC facility. I am taking my CNA class in NJ - I will keep everyone posted on my first clinical which is this Wednesday. Good Luck to everyone :)
Oh just a quick note on the cost of the CNA class - I don't know if this pertains to all states, but apparently in NJ, if you are hired at a LTC / Nursing / Assist Liv Facility, they must reimburse you the full cost of your course within 1 year. Hospitals do not have this legal obligation - not in NJ at least - Just a FYI for everyone :)
