This thread is for those of us who are enrolled in a CNA course right now, and/OR will be certified between March and April. Here is where we rant, network, and/or brag about the way our course (s) are going, our experiences finding a job after our course/internship is completed, and what our plans are for the future (Nursing school, etc.).
We started this topic in another thread, lets keep this going! :heartbeat
Here is a little YouTube humor for all of us potential CNA's. A typical day in the life of a Certified Nursing Assistant :
hello!! i'm pretty excited about starting my cna class march 31st.i registered for the class this past tuesday. got my text book and all the paperwork i need to fill out for the first day of class. i just wish it started sooner! but this will give me some time to start reading the text book, it came with a cd, so i will check that out too. after reading many posts, i realized that back in the early 90's i was basically doing the work of a cna, but wasn't one. i had worked in a care home for many years caring for residents. so i am familur with what a cna does for the most part. but i am still a little nervous, it's been a long time since i've done this type of work. but i'm looking forward to doing it again, but this time i will be a cna!! my goal, like many, is to get into an lvn program then eventually become a rn. my only regret is that i wish i would have done this years ago!! but life got in the way, as did bills! lol!! so i have been out of the medical field for close to 10 years. i really miss it and can't wait to get started doing something i have always wanted to do!! i guess.. it's better late than never!! i look forward to reading everyone's posts on thier cna experiences! this is a great thread!!!

thanks so much for the welcome! yeah they do have morning classes but my husband works 6:30-3:30 and i still have my 3 year old that isn't in school yet to watch. i live about 2 hours away from my family and have absolutely no help with the kids. it kinda stinks living so far away from everyone i know...including friends and it gets pretty lonely lol, that's why i'm greatful for this website! i'm trying to find places that could train me there and not cost anything...but so far no luck. i really want to take this class but don't really have the money up front, but i'm afraid if i don't do it..i'll regret it. i live in the southern part of indiana if anyone knows of a good place. looking forward to getting to know everyone!
Congrats everyone I just finished my clinical and will pick up my certificate on Wednesday I just wanted to say that youtube can be a very useful tool as it has helped me pass my checkoffs if you go to jtduncan54 and subscribe to her videos on youtube it will help you to pass they are for a school in north carolina and are very informative. The LTC that we did our clinicals offered us all jobs after I live in Georgia but was born in NY. PPE is pretty easy but making an occupied bed is kinda tricky but with practice I'm sure you'll be a pro in no time
I posted a link to her videos on this thread, and yes, they are GOLD! :redbeathe:redbeathe
:ancong!: on the successful completion of your clinicals and the Job offer. If I could get a job offer at my internship site I'd be happy to work for the VA Hospital! lol..
Oh just a quick note on the cost of the CNA class - I don't know if this pertains to all states, but apparently in NJ, if you are hired at a LTC / Nursing / Assist Liv Facility, they must reimburse you the full cost of your course within 1 year. Hospitals do not have this legal obligation - not in NJ at least - Just a FYI for everyone :)
I heard the same thing but not quite clear on the procedure to request reimbursement without seeming like an idiot.
Hi everyone!! Back from my 1st full day of clinicals :)Today we did perineal care for two females, helped them get dressed, transferred them from bed to wheelchair, changed their linen, and also help feed some of the residents. I got a chance to talk to one with dementia. And I felt sooo bad for her
She cried on & off about her twin sister..a friend of her sister called her & said that she'd never be able to see her again (most likely the sister has died) but idk if the lady could comprehend that. She could feed herself though but she has to be reminded to do so. Tomorrow we'll be going to the sub-acute unit so I hope that goes well too :)
How exciting! :heartbeat:heartbeat
Hope everything continues to go well. I start clinicals on the 23rd of March god-willing provided my paperwork is all ready to go!
I heard the same thing but not quite clear on the procedure to request reimbursement without seeming like an idiot.
The advice I recieved from the nursing coordinator was simply to wait a few weeks after you have been hired, about 3, and simply ask for the form to fill out for tuition reimbursement. She advised they may putter around about it, but by asking for a form you eliminate any stressful dialogue - Hope this helps! And definitley ask - its a lot of money! :)
I know its still young but there is this part of me that wants to sit back and enjoy that youth BEING stable in all dynamics not JUST getting stable and making decisions etc. I had no excuse I attended a 4 year Univ (Stony Brook), have no kids, and I started at 18. LOL. Life gets in the way. Between transferring schools and changing my major I wasted time and money/financial aid. Now, I'm here at 22. Starting from scratch..I guess WOMEN dont do what they WANT to do, we have to do what we HAVE to do! :redbeathe:redbeathe
Thank you for the encouragement..
You sound just like me. I am also 22 and starting from scratch. I also started college at 18 and will graduate with my 4-year degree next month! I changed my major from Computer Science, to Accounting, to Microbiology, to Biology, to Psychology. I transferred schools twice.
I'm starting my BSN program in August and will graduate with my BSN in December 2010. FINALLY! Something real towards what I want!
