Online CNA Training in Florida

Good Morning,

I work Full time and currently taking evening pre-req classes to apply for NS, hopefully in 2010. I am considering becoming a CNA to help with the career transition and it would be a lot more flexible once I start nursing school. I currently work in an office environment. I did Home Health Aide work in my early 20's back in New York, so I am familiar with the tasks.

I have 2 questions:

- Are there any schools in Florida that offer the training online

-What is the starting pay for CNA in the Orlando area.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.;)

from what i understand in fl you can challange the cna state exam without taking any courses at all. if you truly wanted to you could go to http://www.prometric.com/nurseaide/fl.htm you'll find a clinical skills checklist and other information. print the checklist, memorize it, watch the video lessons that are posted in the sticky on this forum if you need to refresh the skills a little more. https://allnurses.com/forums/f265/free-full-cna-video-course-191189.html

watch the videos, practice the skills, apply for the test on the prometric site i gave you. that will get you the certificate.

but i strongly advise against it. if you take an accredited course you will aslo recieve cpr cert, hiv/aids cert, and are considered employable the moment you pass your course and state exam. i work full time too, and just completed a cna course at a local vocational school that offered night/weekend classes and clinicals. if that is an option for you i would recommend it over challanging the state test and then getting your other certificates seperately. good luck with youre decision... hope this info helps.

thank you for the info, i prefer to go and take the class, if i can find a school that has weekend classes i can do that. i will look around. thanks for the info. i really want to get out of the office environment and start my new career and don't want to wait 3 years until i finish ns. what is the starting pay.

no problem. happy to help. starting pay all depends on your emplyer of course, but from what i've been hearing in my general area (sw fl - port charlotte) it ranges from $11.00 - $15.00 our instructor said that home health agencies typically pay better than nursing homes, and the other plus is you set your own schedule with hh. i'm not sure what hospitals pay... not too many good ones in/near my little town and not easy to get hired in one as a cna... being from orlando, you'll probably have better luck with it, and the pay ranges may be a little more. good luck :up:

I would really discourage people from taking an online CNA class. The written part of the exam is not rocket science, but only 50% pass the skills test on the first try.

The practice with other students for the skills is invaluable. You need an RN instructor to blow the whistle the moment you do something wrong!

It makes a lasting impression.

Good luck to all that choose to challenge unassisted. It can be done, but very few do.

i 100% agree :up: i passed my cna skills exam with flying colors but i can promise you i wouldn't have done as well (or even passed at all) if i didn't take the class. you really learn better with hands on experience both in the lab at school and the real deal at clinicals. worth the extra $$ to know you'll do it right.

can you please tell me which vocational school you take the class in port charlotte florida that offer flexible hours? im working full time too and want to take the cna class. i really appriciate the help.

Can u tell me ur experience in the skill section bc I am also going to challenge the state exam and have been watching YouTube videos but I feel a bit nervous with the blood pressure part since I neva used one and have actually Neva used any of the equipment , how much are u allowed to miss on the skill part before u fail ?

They no longer test for blood pressure because most facilities do electronic bp's now.
