Nursing Students CNA/MA

Hey everybody I'm just curious about our demographic. I just passed the skills and written exam so I'm official now :yeah:. So I just want to know what city are you in? What's the average pay for that city? How long you've been state tested? Do you work in a LTCF or a hospital? And is your city swamped with cna's (stna's as we call them in ohio ;) ...and of course any extra information you'd like to share with your fellow ohio cna's. :redbeathe

I'll start...I'm in Dayton. I just got my results on Monday so I'm very new. From what I hear there are a lot of certified nursing assistants in Dayton but I don't know about state tested. The average pay from what I hear is about $10 although I was offered a position that was only $9.25. I can't wait to start ..I'm very excited. I actually prefer to work in a LTCF. I have an interview tomorrow morning at 10 woohoo. lol I think that's all for now..

Hi,

I am starting CNA class in October. I worked at an assisted living facility as a nursing assistant several years back and loved it. They did not require you to be CNA/STNA and I was making 9.00/hr. I too am in the Dayton area. Where did you take your class at? I am going to the Greene County Career Center.

I plan on starting LPN classes in January and can't wait! I came across this website today and have found alot of great information here! :D

Specializes in Mostly geri :).

I got tested in 2002 and started at 10 an hour in Cleveland. PRN anywhere pays good, highest I've come across is 15. Hospitals, I'm not sure, I've only been there through agency staffing. Look for a place with attendance bonuses, it adds up :)

I'm in the northeast ohio/cleveland area and have been an aide for almost a year and a half. I work in LTC and make 9.50/hr. I've been looking for hospitals to be hiring PCAs... and the cleveland clinic is hiring a bunch.. but it's about a 40 minute drive for me and I can't be doing that everyday along with going to school.

I don't mind working in LTC, I love my residents and I love the people I work with.. but I would really like to get some experience in a hospital setting while I'm going to nursing school.

The pay isn't bad, but of course, I believe for the work we do, we should be making more. PRNs are paid about 3 dollars more at my facility.

There seems to be a good amount of STNAs in the cleveland area. The facility I work at pays you to take classes there and then hires you at one of the 3 sister facilities, so they usually do a STNA class every month and a half or so.

Specializes in Cardiology, LTC, SANE.

I'm in the Northeast/Cleveland area as well. I took a free CNA training class at a LTCF and was hired by them. The pay started at 11.25/hr and the rate goes up to 11.82/hr when you pass your state exam. :) If you need anymore information, I would be more than willing to PM you!

Starting pay here (Southern Ohio) is around $9 an hour.

I work at a major hospital in Columbus, OH. I finished my course in March and started my job in June. I am not state tested / certified. I make $9.98 an hour base rate, $1.55 extra every day I work because I work nights, and an extra $1.55 on top of that for weekends. Day shift just makes the $1.55 extra for weekends.

I don't do blood draws (the lab comes up and does that), but I do EKGs, vitals, and AccuChecks. I do other things, but those are my primary duties during night shift.

Hey everybody just noticed this thread was back up. Thanks for the info. I've been working at a nursing for a few months now. started at 10 well 9.98 / hr. yea my feet hurt and im sleepy so im going to bed. you guys know how it is =)

hey all, i see this post was a few years ago but it is may 2012 and i was living in the wilmington ohio area (south central ohio area) and was making 9.50 plus .50 diff for nights or .75 diff for second at LTCF there and now im in the columbus area at LTCF making 10.40 plus .50 diff for nights and .75 for second and am heading to a major hospital for interview and hope to update my pay there if hired. not sure what to ask for pay. been STNA since 2009 and done homecare at 9.00 hr in wilmington area as well as various LTCF. highest i made in LTCF was 10.50. we should make more than we do. but the pay at the hospital staes minimum is 10.83 hr.~~~
