Since I've gone through training, I've soo badly wanted to work in a hospital. I am currently a Home Health Aide and have gained a year experience from this job. I was wondering what it takes to get hired at a hospital and what working in a hospital is like. I've turned in about 9 applications for CNA positions at local hospitals, equipped with a decent resume and I've tried to call all the places I've applied (hate dealing with most Human Resources) usually getting an answering machine or them telling me to call back in a week. I'd love some help. Thanks!

It's going to depend on your area, but I got hired to a hospital with no experience. Hospitals in my city tend to always have CNA openings and they are willing to do a lot of on-the-job training and long orientations so that new employees feel totally comfortable before being asked to work on thier own.
I *love love love* working in a hospital. If you want to know more about the daily tasks, someone down this page a few entries asked a similar question...see the thread "Anyone working at med/surg floor?" for some good comments from some people with hospital CNA experience.
If you applied at my hospital with a year of HHA experience, you'd be snatched up quickly.
If you want to know anything else specific about working the floor or anything, feel free to ask.
Best of luck!!!

Try to volunteer in the hospital that you want to work in. That has helped me get jobs in the past. Good luck!

working in a hospital is awesome! so much better that ltc or hhc. your duties will include obtaining vital signs (usually every four hours), testing pt's blood sugars, and the normal adl stuff like baths and feeding and bedchages, etc. it might seem daunting at first, but you'll learn to love it. just be prepared to work fast! lol

Volunteering helped people get hired at the hospital where my daughter worked as a volunteer.
