Class Schedule...need opinions

Ok...I have two choices of when to take AP, and wanted to run it by everyone and see what the recommendation are.

Option 1: Take APII BEFORE API, with 3 other classes, one of which will be a high school level of Chemistry.

Option 2: Take API this summer....but the first part of AP runs the ENTIRE summer, it's not broke down into 5 weeks, it spans both summer sessions, but this will be the only class I would be taking this summer.

Option 2 would also leave me taking APII in the fall w/ other nursing courses, should I be accepted for Fall 2007.

In my opinion as a nursing student, you realllllllly need both AP's before being accepted. The instructors assume this and will talk extremely over your head if you don't have a very good background knowledge of AP. Just my opinion tho,... be it as it may.

boy thats a tough choice, I am surprised your school would even let you take ap2 before 1. our AP 2 builds off of 1.

for what its worth I am taking chem and ap 1 now and its do able alot of work but doable.

Well, THEY SAID that it's not a pre-req to take API before APII because they courses are set up independently. However, I'm not sure I buy that, and I'm not 100% convinced I am willing to take a chance on it. I'm basing it on the fact that most of the other students will have already had this same professor and will be familiar with his testing and that will put me at a disadvantage.

API or APII is not required to start the nursing program at this school. They are incorporated into the 2-year program, however, because of the difficulty of the course and the study time required, it's recommended that you take it before hand if possible.

So yeah, I'm not sure of what to do.

I had a woman in my A&P II class last fall who was in the first semester of the nursing program. She also worked full-time, as I recall. She was busy, but I think she did just fine. It really depends on what you think you can handle.

On the flip side, I could see how A&P I and II could be set up separately. As long as you review some of the material from the first part of the book (A&P vocab, chem, etc.) before starting A&P II I think you would be okay to take it first.

Our A&P I and II were totally independent. One covered one set of body systems, and the other covered the rest. There definitely was no need to take one before the other.

If I were in your shoes, I would go with the option that completes A&P I and II before you start nursing school. Good luck!

Almost all the schools in my area requires one to take A&P 1 before A&P 2. Do the first option if your school allows you to do it. It is not going to be a cake walk with either option. Good luck to you.

If your school allows you to take II before I, I would go ahead and do it. Just because most programs do it in one order doesn't mean it's right for you. If it's normally allowed, and not you getting a special exemption or something, I don't see why you shouldn't try it. One really may not build on the other at your school. Make sure you talk to a counselor and/or someone whose taken both classes at your school before you commit, but if they say it's OK then go for it. I'd rather take A&P II with chemistry than with nursing courses. Just my 2 cents. Good luck however you get it all done!

Take the AP 2, then AP 1 in summer then for Fall you'll have nothing but nursing courses.

I think I'm going to do that. I don't think the Chemistry will be that hard b/c it's designed for students that never took Chemistry in high school, and is not considered a college level. We'll take another semester of Chemisty that is college level once the nursing program starts.

I'm scared to death of Chemistry, but I think I can keep up with a "remedial" pace.

I'm wondering about the same thing. We need to make at least a C in A&P1 before we can register for part 2.
