The hospital where I used to work is within walking distance, and the housing is affordable.

Of course, you may not be down with eleven med/surg patients routinely... :rolleyes:

Actually I live in a city like this with a hospital in walking distance. The city is beautiful with lots of trees and a couple lakes, but nothing huge to deal with.

Its Northern Kentucky.

Mind you, I don't work at the hospital 5 minutes from my home, I commute :rotfl:

i need your suggestions: can you recommend a small city or town with hospitals that you can walk to from home?
i hate commuting :angryfire , and i'm looking for an environment that has less traffic, noise, and affordable housing would be a big plus. lots of trees, lakes, and beautiful scenery would be ideal. does this place even exist? :uhoh21:
fyi: i'm a new grad looking for my first med/surg position.
all suggestions are welcome! thank you! :)

i know of such a place...exactly as you describe! it's in central washington state. lakes..great fishing, swimming, boating, jetskiing, ..etc. nice people...(everyone knows everyone). however, closest real shopping is about 50 to 70 miles away. and the sidewalks come up at 9pm..:)!

Portland, Oregon has many good hospitals in residential neighborhoods. I don't even own a car. Anywhere I want to go, I walk, ride my bike or take the bus or train. Many hospitals even pay for the transit pass for their employees. It's 75 and sunny right now, which is a bit warm for early may. The roses are in bloom, the pacific is an hour away, the riverfront is full of joggers and bicyclists. I can go skiing if I like ( Mt. Hood, an hour away has skiing year round, even when it's 80 degrees downtown) Portland has the largest city park in America, the 5,000 acre forest park. Eastern Washington State -- I used to walk to work. Trees, mountains, lakes. It has a great climate and beautiful scenery. I lived on the South Hill in Spokane, and could walk to either Deaconess Medical Center or Sacred Heart Medical Center.
