City Colleges of Chicago: Fall 2012

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hi!

I thought I would start a thread for those of us who have applied for the Fall 2012 Nursing Program at the City Colleges of Chicago. I have heard that they are letting people know on April 18th. Let's hope that's accurate because I'm so anxious to find out! Post here if you've heard anything at all in regards the the Nursing Program!

Hope to hear from everyone soon!

Kat

I KNEW that was going to happen, and even though it doesn't change anything now, it is so unfair. I've taken over 50 credit hours at Truman, so when I found out that they were taking people with the highest GPA from CCC I called Dr. Gurney (over 4 months ago). I was assured that if you've taken all your classes at CCC, then your application would take precidense over someone's who transferred from another University and has taken only one or two classes at CCC.

@ Needra21 - Was Daley your City College of choice?

Idk if they r going by gpa. I have a 3.8 and still no response

I have not received an email yet.

Last night at work I was just going crazy. I couldn't concentrate on anything. I just needed to know. I thought if I did something, it would make me feel better. I decided I would email Dr. Gurney, not expecting any type of reply, especially last night, it was almost 11.

Basically I said, I hadn't received an acceptance email and therefore I assume I was not accepted. I asked if there would be rejection emails sent out to verify this.

I couldn't believe that about 2 minutes later she responded.

"We are working as quickly as possible. The new process (all online) is taking a bit longer than expected. We have sent out acceptance letters to applicants with very high scores and also sent to letters to those that applied but did not meet the criteria in some fashion.

Your situation is a bit different as you meet all criteria, but have a moderate cumulative grade point average. We will most likely be placing a few applicants on a temporary wait list in the event that some folks decide to go elsewhere later on. That will most likely be the case in which we will hold your file and wait for openings. No guarantees but last year a dozen or so people changed their minds at the end of the summer. We will keep you posted."

I cannot tell if they are done sending out all acceptance emails or if they are still working on it.

I can tell you my cumulative GPA is 2.9. I have a GPA of 3.7 for the the prerequisites. Sounds to me like they are looking at Cumulative GPA pretty exclusively. I knew those grades from 20 years ago were going to bite me in the you know what.

With a 3.8 I don't know what they are waiting for with you, EmanEMT.

I have accepted that I am not in. Even if they are still sending out acceptance emails I can tell from Dr. Gurney's response that I'd be lucky to be on a waiting list.

I admit I'd like to have some sort of official email for some closure.

This happened to me last semester, they changed last minute from a point system to Gpa system. I had a overall GPA of 3.3 last semester and was told that it was too low compared with other applicants, even thou everyone of my non-nursing classes were done (micro, a/p 1/2). Had to start taking classes towards a bachelor program. Which is ok since I can do a bridge after Truman to complete my BSN. Keep your chin up peeps!! Hope to be having some great study sessions with you in the future!

What's Dr gurney's email?

Sorry last year**

Thanks kmccoy. That is absolutely my plan. I am going to start taking all the classes for the bridge transfer program to UIC.

I really wanted to get in, knew I really didn't have much of a chance so I am not so devastated.

BUT, if they happen to slip me in, I will be ecstatic! ha

Thanks, Bethany1975.

I'm feeling a little guilty about posting the email online. But, when I called Truman the other day to ask a question they had no problem saying "Email Dr. Gurney, her email is......"
