Hello everyone!
I applied to my home college's nursing program. I applied to a few BSN programs and other CCs. Since I can't get into any BSN programs I figure my top choice ADN program could have some consideration on me.
Anyone besides me waiting to hear from Citrus?
I am thinking we should hear sometime in May, hopefully early May

I also applied. The downfall about Citrus for those of us who DO NOT have a 4.0 GPA and have not obtained a degree, is that they only go by merit. Basically the top get chosen downward. I have a 4.0 GPA @ Citrus with a 3.2 in my transferred core scienes. Think I have a chance? According to a counselor there, she said "you better apply everywhere" meaning with my 'good' grades its not enough. I hope its a scare tactic but at this point I really dont care. I applied back in February and its crazy that there have been no updates!
I know. I also do not have a 4.0. I have a 4.0 in the sciences. They were all taken at Citrus. As for my other classes....uh...not so much. Maybe like a 3.0.
Since they do not take the TEAS in account, I could have gotten away with getting in. But now... I don't know. When did you apply? I applied in March. I am hoping to get in.
Where else did you apply?
I also applied to CSULB (got interviewed but didn't get in), CSULA (I haven't heard, but some acceptances are already out and I doubt I will get in), CSUSB (toss up, won't hear until July), and RCC (I have 85/100 points, the lowest they take is 75, so I am almost a shoe-in)
I want a BSN but since they are getting ridiculously hard to get into, I might as well get an ADN.
I hear as an ADN graduate you may not get a job. Which is true, to an extent. The hospital where I work just hired 3 RN's all ADN. Since my director sees my hardwork. I know he wont have a problem hiring me as an RN no matter the degree.
If you can, no matter where you go, I would get my foot in the door now for healthcare. That way you can start networking while your in school. Make some contacts and have a job after graduation and upon passing the NCLEX.
I just wish people would stop going around spreading this news that ADNs are not getting hired. Its just ridiculous and I feel purposefully trying to mess with people. State of California is so broke, they would not spend a dime funding programs that are not going to make the state its money back. I don't see any classes for laundry wash boards 101 lol! I see a lot of your posts and it paints a picture that you are very knowledgeable about ADN and BSN programs and thats awesome! I hope you finally get into a school and get your RN! As of this moment, If I don't get into any RN programs I will just do the LVN program and bridge or get my BSN later. Whatever God want's for me, is what will happen. I applied to Glendale CC, Pasadena CC, Citrus and Rio Hondo. Didnt do Chaffey, SBVC or RCC because I would get less educational benefits from the Veteran Affairs because I get benefits based on the housing costs in the same zip of my school and I couldnt afford to live off the lesser income for those schools. I applied in February with Nursing counselor at Citrus. I did get a letter from GCC inviting me to take the TEAS but I dont think I can afford the 90 minute, 19 mile commute on the 210 west most days a week. Argh!!!!!!!!!!!
That is just what I have heard from other people in hospitals. I wouldn't worry too much. Its only for big hospitals that are trying to become teaching hospitals. Other smaller hospital, I do not think care much. And thanks the broke state of CA, they are taking away education $$ and putting toward God know what!
Anyway, yes, I would hope after researching nursing for 2 years, I would be decently knowledgeable. I have also applied to many a program and have to research how they accept their students. Its all about getting accepted these days; it seems like the hard part!
Thank you, I really hope I do get into a program. I want to get my bachelors since I want the highest education possible for the position. I want at least a bachelors because I will be the only one in my immediate family with that high of a degree. If I can't get into any BSN programs, then ADN it is. I wouldn't mind doing an ADN because it is cheaper and short than BSN programs. Loans are hard to pay back these days. Its getting ridiculous!
I really hope you get into the program you want. You sound like you have really good stats. I think you will get in! Did you serve in the military? If so, thank you for serving!
And congrats for the letter from GCC! If you want to take the TEAS closer and for other schools, you can take it at Rio Hondo. That is what I did. All the BSN programs and RCC that I applied to need the TEAS done before a certain time. I had to take it soon so I took it there. Not bad, test was computerized and got the results instantly! The test itself is another stupid standardized test to show that if you really are not a good test taker, then good luck getting into a program (its sooo sad).
I am an alternate for Citrus.
