I have to respectfully offer a contrary point of view to the poster who suggested you need to eat a lot of meat...just like anything, eating too much protein will also be stored as fat. What happens when people switch to a high-protein diet is that it often fills them up more than the empty-calorie items they used to eat, so you simply just end up taking in fewer calories which leads to weight loss. Plus, we are all aware of the health problems associated with eating a diet high in animal fat.

Your body actually uses carbohydrates for its primary energy source, so go with tons of veggies (around 5 servings a day) and try to curtail your intake of processed foods. Enjoy a varied diet so you never feel deprived, and eat only when you're physically hungry... the key is to stop eating when you're not hungry anymore (not when you're full).

Good luck...I know it's tough to keep the weight off when we sit on our bums 12 hours a day studying. Have you thought about going for a walk or run with classmates before class? I started running again over the break and I'm almost up to 4 miles...I am hoping to keep it going throughout the semester.

You can do it :-)

A few things, keep a food diary to actually review what you are eating

This works for me. If I keep a food diary, I lose or maintain my weight. If I don't, I gain weight.

If you can run, why are you not running for half an hour every day? This will strengthen and tone your muscles, reduce your stress levels, and help you lose weight.

You do not need to be eating meat to lose weight. This is probably not news to you if you are a health nut, but you really just need to cut out simple carbs, make sure you are getting plenty of complex carbs and protein, and eating enough fresh fruits and veggies. Avoid processed foods if at all possible.

You sound like you do a lot of things right, and just need to tweak your exercise and food intake habits a little.

How is that I gained 10 pounds over a couple of months and I'm still wearing size 6 jeans..I always have been size 6 and always weighted 115 (I'm 5'5 and half inch) now I find that I weight 125-130(usually I gain couple of pounds during winter due to increased appetite) and still wearing the same size,so how is it possible that you wear size 10?? Perhaps little exaggeration on your part?? BTW my friend who weights 180 wears size 12...:uhoh3: Maybe you should stop panicking and worry about your grades

The brand and cut of pants varies wildly. I have some size 10s and 12s that I can wear with one brand, but with another brand, I don't have any hopes of a 10 or 12 because of how they've sized them.

I noticed that most women carry their weight differently. I am very curvy and tend to be bigger in the hips and pretty small in the waist. If you are a size six and gained 15 pounds and still fit into your six, your lucky. If I gain six pounds, my jeans are snugging up. Nursing school is hard and takes over your life for a bit. Just try to eat well (I was a grazer) and get in some exercise. I found that after school, I lost it on the job. Well, not all of it but it's a start :D

I'd suggest taking time to go to the gym. I take Lifetime Fitness for just this reason. I walk on the treadmill for half an hour, during that time, I'm flipping note cards - so I'm not wasting precious study time. :)

I have noticed that I've gained weight during nursing school as well. But this is so odd! I weigh MORE than you and am shorter, yet I am a size 0/2! To be exact, I weigh around 120 lbs and am 5'2 but I look to be around 100 lbs. My jeans are from Hollister and Abercrombie... so no 'vanity' sizing here. In Hollister I wear a size 2 but should wear a 0 because I constantly have to wear belts or I'm tugging them up all the time. In Abercrombie I wear a kids size 16! (Oh and no muffin top here, I would never give myself one.) So where does my weight go? Its the weirdest thing. I am slender up and down, and wear form fitting clothes so I wouldn't get away with excess weight anywhere. Eh, but who am I to complain? :lol2:
