Chronic Lice

What do you do for chronice lice and non compliant parents. Poor kids are suffering, itching, paranoid, etc. and it's the parents! Our policy is no live bugs.

I send out notices in accordance with our moronic/idiotic/stupid state law but, fortunately, our district doesn't exclude students for head lice so, otherwise, I don't do a damn thing about it. However, if someone is interested in treatment options I'm all over them with information.

A couple of our nurses have made CPS referrals due to chronic lice.

Our policy allows us to at our discretion (which is silly, because I was not aware that I needed "permission" to use my discretion to refer to CPS. Big eye roll.) It's been done, usually as part of an attendance issue, but they never act on it because in the world of CPS referrals, it's small potatoes!

I have also referred to CPS for chronic lice. I knew that they would not act/investigate the issue, but I wanted it to be part of their file when other issues were reported.

Just curious if any of you have seen good outcomes with the prescription lice treatment Sklice? I have a kid who has done 2 rounds of nix, (sent home to do a 3rd round today) and I suggested asking their dr about it, but I've never heard firsthand how effective it is.

Do you have any lice salons in your area? You can refer them there. The salons aren't cheap but so long as the whole family is screened there and those that need treatment are treated, they guarantee lice removal (in the sense that if they are found to have lice again within the specified time frame, the treatment is free). Our district actually paid for a family to get treated at one of our local lice salons after the kids had missed their THIRD week of school.

Lice Clinics of America seem to be a national lice salon "chain"

Closest lice clinic is a 4 hour drive. . . family with limited financial resources. I doubt the district would pay for that. probably not an option for them. They checked with Dr about sklice and were told it would cost them about $400!! so back to OTC and combing. . . still had nits today when I checked. sad for this girl.
