Hi everyone. I'm an accelerated student on track to graduate in May 2010 , and the time is coming (soon!) to try to pick our specialties/areas to which we want to apply. I know that we don't need to stay in the same place forever- thank goodness- but I'm a little lost regarding which areas I'd like to apply for. My assessment skills are good, but my communication skills are where I have doen the best in clinicals. The only experience I really did not care for during clinicals has been the emergency department. Kudos to those who enjoy it but the chaos was just not for me! Psych/developmental disabilities is an option for me. I liked L & D. My instructor said I should take a strong look at oncology, and possibly ICU/CCU.
I'm open to trying new things and applying to a variety of positions. Any experience (and $$$) is better than nothing!
Any thoughts on how to specialize??
Thanks!

I'd be more concerned with getting my foot in the door anywhere as a new grad. There's plenty of time and opportunity to seek out a specialty after you're employed.
Thank you for your help! That's more or less what I was thinking, but it feels like we're pressured to specialize while we're still in school. I'm definitely not the only one stressing about this but some are dead set that they're going to be ICU, ER etc nurses.
