Hi all, just starting a new thread to see where everyone is at regarding application to the CHLA RN residency program scheduled for September 2015! What units did you apply to, and who has received their packet information?
Of course! Is your friend interviewing soon? Or does he just want to find ways to be connected within the OR? If it's for the interview/position I can say that managers love it when the applicant has a passion for 1) team work and 2) patient advocacy because that's what the OR is all about. It'll be a plus for your friend to mention that he has a passion for working in a team and also making sure the patient goes through a safe and successful surgery. Managers also look for applicants with great communication, leadership skills, and also someone who is great with technology. OR nurses must be detail oriented and always be willing to help each other out. His strengths and passion for OR nursing should point out to these qualities. Also another big thing is your friend should have a good idea of where he sees himself in five years as an OR nurse. Managers love to hear that applicants see themselves with their CNOR and also looking to educate/precept other students and nurses. Also looking to be involved in quality committees and in-service education :)
Congratulations RNJedi and SN2RN2015!! I will also be in your cohort! I was called May 19 and told I was selected for the Emergency Deparmtnet and then they asked for my DOB and SSN to run the background check. That's the last I've heard from them. Did you guys get anything more? Maybe an email with a formal offer? I'm thinking they were waiting until all of CHLA's 2015 cohort was selected.
Congrats CassPedsRN! Look forward to meeting you and everyone else who made it! My friend said they are still holding interviews on her unit so they might wait until everyone is selected. I was just asked for my Ssn and dob too but they said they would contact us at a later date and send us a welcome packet.

Congrats SN2RN2015 that's amazing! I want to ask, do you have any experience working in the hospital or in pediatrics?
