Hi everyone.
I am planning on applying to Chico states' Nursing program for spring start. I just got my acceptance letter for the school itself, but have no yet applied to the program yet.
I just want to know about the school a little more. I wanted to see what everyone thinks about the city itself and the school, the good and the bad.
If you can just tell me your opinions about the academics, the staff, and faculty I would love to hear.
I would also appreciate what you think of the people and the city itself.
I have a tour scheduled for in a few weeks, but I really would like to hear what other people think too.
Thank you! :)
@AB29 You might be thinking of Rainbow Falls :) It's next to this neat rock formation called Devil's Postpile.
I highly recommend visiting Mammoth-- I have spent waaay too much time goofing off around here.
I also hate moving. I really hope to find a more permanent place, my boyfriend will be moving to Chico probably about 5 months after I do. He has a good situation here so he isn't quite ready to leave. I really don't want to move, then move again. I am so tired of moving- I haven't stayed in one place for very long and I'm ready to have a bit of stability.
No news yet from Chico :/ Oh well. I really hope it's soon. The only other school I applied to for this Spring was Butte, but didn't get in--I heard it can take 6 lottery cycles to get in there. I was accepted to two direct-entry masters programs that started this past August, but I declined my admission because I couldn't justify paying >$120,000 in tuition alone. I decided state school or community college would be the more financially responsible choice.
That was my 4th time applying to Butte and there were about 80 names on the fourth-time applicant denial email.
Yeah, the direct entry programs are really expensive. The ones at the CSUs aren't quite as expensive, but they have recency requirements on anatomy and physiology which I took quite a while ago, and some have other weird hoops you have to jump through to meet the requirements. I got in to Western University of Health Sciences which came out to about $120,000 for the FNP option and University of Hawaii which came out to over $170,000 in out-of-state tuition for the dual degree FNP/APHN path. I just didn't want to get another bachelor's degree but, in the long I will save a lot of money. If I stick to state schools I calculated that I will pay about 80,000 less even if I still continue to a masters program--it's just going to take a year or two longer to get there-- and I won't be paying student loans off for the rest of my life.
I did apply to CSU San Marcos' ABSN program for Summer 2014 so if I don't get in to Chico I'll probably go there. But, it's at the Temecula campus and Temecula is not that awesome of a city, I'd rather not live there. So I'm really hoping I get in to Chico. I'm not a big fan of Southern California in general and there is no way in he** my boyfriend would ever move to So Cal...
Anyhow, everything happens for a reason. At this point I'm just rolling with the punches.
Really hoping we hear something by the end of this month.

Oh I know what you mean. I was planning on getting a roommate too, because it would be cheaper, even if the rent was already cheap. Plus it would give me a chance to make a new friend, or enemy. WHO KNOWS. Haha.
Ab92, I'm going to email you okay? Maybe we can talk more about the living situation
