Chico State University Reviews

Published

Hi everyone.

I am planning on applying to Chico states' Nursing program for spring start. I just got my acceptance letter for the school itself, but have no yet applied to the program yet.

I just want to know about the school a little more. I wanted to see what everyone thinks about the city itself and the school, the good and the bad.

If you can just tell me your opinions about the academics, the staff, and faculty I would love to hear.

I would also appreciate what you think of the people and the city itself.

I have a tour scheduled for in a few weeks, but I really would like to hear what other people think too.

Thank you! :)

I absolutely adore Chico! I got a B.S. in Exercise Physiology there a few years ago, and I liked it so much I'm applying to the nursing program for Spring 2014.

The campus itself is beautiful. The WREC is hands-down the best fitness facility I have ever had the pleasure of using. The school and city are very eco-friendly. The majority of my professors were outstanding, however, they were not faculty of the Nursing Dept.

The city is great! In my opinion, it is the perfect size--I would even live there long-term. I am not a fan of "big city" life and I found Chico to be an excellent compromise. Rent is very affordable. The Chicoans are very friendly. Downtown is awesome--plenty of good food, bars and stuff to do within walking distance from campus. There is a bit of crime--but it's really not too bad, just make sure you don't leave bike unchained or your car/house unlocked. My only true complaint is how hot it gets in the Summer. I live at 8,000 ft elevation in a small, rural town in the Eastern Sierras and acclimating to 90-100 degree temps was challenging the first summer I was there.

If you enjoy the outdoors Bidwell Park is great and Tahoe is only a couple hours away.

I don't know how old your are, but if you are in to the party scene, it is definitely there, just like most college towns. But, it's easy enough to avoid if you want to.

I hope this helps! Let me know if there is anything specific you have a question about. My fingers are crossed I get in to the nursing this spring because I REALLY want to move back and possibly settle down there if that's where life takes me ;)

Chico's an okay town. I've lived here all my life. It's definitely a party town, but has nice things about it too. Have you looked into their point system and calculated how many points you will have?

I am applying to! Can I ask what where you stand point wise? I wish I knew people who were applying because I want to see where I stand compared to others. I really want to get in and not have to wait another semester to apply or even change majors.

I'm not a party person myself, but i recently visited the town and I love it there. I also visited the surrounding cities and I am completely in love with the county!

Thank you very much for all your input. :)

I visited recently and love the area. I took the Teas and scored the minimum. So right now my points are a 76.5. I'm taking it again in two weeks, and I'm hoping that I score higher and get a few more points in. I'm scared that my score wont improve though and I wont get in. I noticed that all previous cut offs were 80-85, so I'm freaking out. I know they also accept alternatives, but I'm scared even with that, the alternatives might have still higher points than me.

If I calculated my points correctly I have 88.5. There is another thread here I recently stumbled across, https://allnurses.com/online-nursing-schools/csu-chico-spring-855888.html .

I adore Chico and am really excited at the prospect of moving back.

I recommend the ATI study guide and the McGraw Hill practice tests--I bought both books on Amazon. I also used Khan Academy videos to brush up on some physiology because it has been about 6 yrs since I took that class.

Reading the posts from the link you just sent me, makes me even more nervous now!!!!. You all have High 80s and previous cutoffs have been 80-85. My points are only at a 76.5. I took the Teas twice so far. The first time I didn't study and got a 78. The second time i studied my butt off and the test ended up being super hard, I only got an 80%. I'm taking it again in hopes that I can score at least an 85, to give me a fighting chance and get my points in the 80s range.

Shoot for the 90% or higher mark on the TEAS ;) You can do it! Review the topics you got wrong--and do lots of practice tests. I spent about 2 weeks studying the ATI guide, then spent the 2 days before my test doing practice tests... over and over...

I didn't exactly feel ready, and I wouldn't describe how I felt going in to the test as confident--but (this sounds maybe a little bit crazy) I visualized myself scoring 95%, and repeated that score to myself over and over again.

I ended up with a 94.7.

I swear it was the practice tests that helped the most. Take the time to review the explanatory answers to the questions you get wrong. And if you have the ATI guide book, the test results that ATI gave you should have a list of topics to review along with the corresponding page numbers in the ATI book.

I have both those books and have been studying. When i take the practice exams my scores keep ranging, nothing has been constant. It really just depends on the types of questions that are being asked. I even review them after i miss them and then i will get them right the next time, but then i'll just mess up on other questions.

Wow. Haha That's so funny. But goodjob!. I'm hoping I can do well. I had a really bad month in septemeber and nothing seemed to go right for me. I'm hoping october will be my month and i will do good since it's my birthday month. So far everything as been going really good for me. I know it's just the start of the month but i hope it doesnt end!

I'm thinking positive thoughts for you! I definitely wasn't scoring in the 90s consistently with the practice tests, but I found the actual exam to be a bit easier than the practice ones. Hopefully you will get an easier version of the exam this time.
