Chest hair

Nurses Men

Published

I am a student nurse with an assignment to post a question online, so this one popped into mind...

The school I attend requires male students to cover their chest hair with an undershirt if their scrub top allows any hair to be shown. I also have a friend whom is an RN that allows his massive amounts of chest hair to shown and well known.

Should males be required in practice to cover their chest hair with an undershirt?

I know this is may seem silly, but as a male SN I am very curious to see some opinions on the matter. Thank you

My

Nursing program requires this as well.

My answer would be a resounding YES.

As a patient, I could handle an unfamiliar hair from someone's head, but the short-and-curlys would totally freak me out

Haha that's why I never wore scrub dresses! I never went commando it's too cold in the OR. I got called out by my supervisor for going braless lol! I mean really, I was wearing the gowns, etc, who cares about a bra!!

Isn't chest hair the same kind of hair as pubic hair? If a chest hair fell out and landed on the desk, it would look like a pube, who would know the difference?

I worked with a male nurse with a respectable pelt and he offered to tape some of his chest hairs to people's lunches in hopes of discouraging thieves (yeah, someone had terrible munchies for a while there, eating people's home brought food!).

Chest pubes=

If you want to be that guy with a bunch of overgrown body hair, don't make everyone else look at it.

Isn't chest hair the same kind of hair as pubic hair?
Nope. Two completely different neighborhoods with distinct foliage and landscaping... at least in this town. ;)

if you put yourself in the place of the patient, would you have been ok if your nurse were hairy? i think private parts of body should be covered.

If you're as hairy as a Sasquatch, shave it down to just below where it's covered by your scrub top. It only takes an extra five seconds when you're shaving, and that way you won't scare patients, family members or small animals. And while you're at it, hit that unibrow at the same time.

But don't shave it. Chest hair is just GOSH the greatest thing.

Our program recommended that we cover chest hair if we were extra hairy. I think that it was more the preference of the administrators than an actual rule of the program. Clinical placement was very difficult for our program and they don't want the nurse managers to remember our school for anything other than the work we did.

OMG any nurse can wear a regular V neck scrub top. If a man is hairy its not his fault! If a woman is hairy, not her fault! That's the uniform, wear it, love it, rock it!

As someone who has a hairy chest, that I do keep neatly trimmed, I say cover it. I think that it is a more professional look if it is covered up. When I put on my uniform I pride myself on looking as clean, neat and tidy as possible.
