Chemistry was hands down the hardest pre- req for me so far and I take chem 2 this semester
When I took chem I got a D on the first test because I was studying for it all wrong.
So I got a tutor for the class (so helpful) and began to focus on the formulas that were giving me problems by re-doing the examples and class problems over and over and over and over until I got it. Also, reading the chapter before class was helpful.
Just try your best and you can do it! Goodluck!
Hey there, I hated chemistry! I am an A student and I struggled to get a B. It has been the most difficult class I have taken. I agree that khanacademy.org is great. There is also a website called markrosengarten.com that was really helpful, the guy is kind of goofy but he covers the material pretty well. I also watched a lot of you tube videos, some are really good and some not so much. Just keep watching videos and studying. You will get through it and you will be so happy when it's over!
I had to take an entire year of Chemistry and math is not a personal friend of mine. Our nursing program is so competitive I knew I had to at least make B's in both semesters. From day one I seeked out a tutor and saw him once a week for the entire year. I cannot tell you how much he helped me but I got a B in general Chem 1 and an A in general Chem 2. I would highly advise getting a tutor bc they understand and explain things that you may not understand. Good luck to you!
I definitely recommend a tutor or study group. I found that bouncing information off of a group of people helps me to remember it and certain students had strengths in areas that others had weaknesses, so this helped with understanding things that the professor didn't really explain well. Good luck!
I hate hate HATE chemistry. The only thing that seemed to help me was the textbook that I had to buy for class: Chemistry: An Introduction to General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry (11th Edition). It is costly, and probably unnecessary for you if you don't require that text book but it really breaks the info down and has good pictures and diagrams in the book to help you understand. Almost like CHEMISTRY for Dummies.
Thank you NB84. I do know where the tutoring center is, unfortunately I am not able to go because of the time that they close. They are only open till 4:30. I have two little ones at home still, so I cannot go during the day and the days I have classes, My first class ends at 4:30 : ( My husband is a good tutor and has been a great help, but I just wanted to know if there were other suggestions or sites that I could look to, when I am trying to figure out the work on my own.
I will third Khan Academy (www.khanacademy.org). It is such a great resource and it really helped me to have my light bulb moment regarding balancing chemical equations! I have small children, too and I was able to utilize my school's online tutoring lab, which kept more friendly hours for me (ie. nights/weekends). I would definitely contact your tutoring center and inquire about similar options. Micro and A&P were a breeze for me compared to chemistry. Good luck with your studies!

Hi everyone! My name is Tasha and I am a pre-nursing student at San Joaquin Delta College. I am currently taking chemistry as it is a pre-req to get into some of my science classes and I have to say that even though I am slowly understanding it, I by no means love it. I have been searching for websites that will give me extra practice with the Dimensional analysis part since that is what we are currently working on. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I really want to get at a least a B in this class. I have been getting all A's in my classes, except for one B which was in Nurtrition. Any ideas to help me master Chemistry would be appreciated. Have a great Fall Semester and good luck!
