***Chemistry - Fall 2005***

Published

Who else is taking Chemisrty this semester? I thought maybe we can check in with each other, and help each other out.

If there is enough of us maybe we can even get a sticky.

I am taking Health Science Chemistry 1.

I am really stressing over Chemistry and I wasn't until I found out the teacher that I had. Our teacher teaches his lessons off of a power point presentation. All he does is read off of it and kind of elaborate on it. Not much though. Today we was figuring out the element 109 which is Mt and he was like what is that? Never heard of that one. Hello shouldn't he know this?? It is just getting really frustrating. I wish I had looked at other colleges to take this class because from what I see on that ratemyprofessor.com I should have taken it at another college. 2 others actually. We will have our first test soon. We will be doing a review on Wednesday and than the test will be in the testing center from Friday till I think he said that next Wed. I just really wish he taught good. None of the power point presentations come from the textbook. I don't want to have to retake this class.

Oh Lalajen that totally sucks. I couldn't imagine learning this stuff from powerpoint. Our teacher is really good about writing everything down on the chalkboard and explaining it step by slow step. He then asks if anyone has a question on it and usually, many students do. He seems really patient with us. I could not imagine a teacher asking if the problem was right, unless he was asking it, in a teaching style question for the student to figure it out. Yikes, is it too late for you to drop it and get a refund? maybe you could go somewhere else for the class, if you could still get your money back. Good luck to you my friend.

OK....got my grade.

WITH the bonus question, even though I didn't get all 15 points, I made an 87. I'm relieved. Thank GOD for my instructor's bonus question.

They are hard questions though. If you didn't study, there would be no way to get it correct. This one was 3 questions worth 5 points each.

So, I'm happy, like I have told all of you, 87 is GOOD in chemistry!!! (At least for me it is.) lol

We did thermochemistry today, and the lab we did today involved finding the specific heat. Pretty interesting.

Good luck everyone! :)

Thanks!! I wouldn't get 100% back even if I did want to drop it. I am going to stick with it and see how I do. I really don't want to have to retake it again. I don't want to lose any money since we are paying out of pocket. But the main reason is I don't want to have to retake it! lol I want to get it out of the way. :) Hopefully things will get better. Some other students are as stressed as I am so hopefully we can just teach each other. We are having a test soon. He said we was going to do a review but all he did was pass out papers that had questions on it and he said you could e-mail him if you have any trouble with it. He wouldn't give you the answer but he could help. Now what I don't understand is how would we know if we got it right if he won't give us the answers to the problems?? I am so stressed out about this test!

My instructor only recapped what we lectured about....topics only...... No review, no review sheet, nothing.....uggghhhhhh

Hey, if you have any that you get stuck on, just try typing them on here. Use E for exponent or ^. :)

Maybe we all can help.:specs:

Good luck!!!!!!!!

[i knew you would do well!!

ok, i am offically done with chemistry. i do not understand nomenclature for polyatomic elements at all!! i am so lost. there is so much to memorize. fun to care-your link was great but unless i have it in front of me, i have no idea what i am doing!

i just feel so depressed now! thought i was doing well but now this hurdle that may lead me to fail!!! :o :o

officially done? did you drop?

if not, can you get tutoring at your school? study groups? something!!!!! i didn't get it either until i went to tutoring.

polyatomics: you have to memorize them. i did make a powerpoint quiz over the ones we had to learn. make flashcards.

let us know if there is any specific thing you need help on. hopefully one of us will be able to figure out a way to help you learn it.

good luck.

best wishes. :kiss :icon_hug:

No, not going to drop. I know, I'm making my flashcards tonight. It's just so frustrating. :banghead:

Thanks!

Don't worry, you are not alone, lol. It sounds like we all feel the same way about Chemistry. It is so confusing. Hang in there with the rest of us. We will get through it.

Good job on the score. That is a good grade for Chem. Congrats!!

Is anyone covering thermochemistry yet???????

Thanks. :)

Sorry, I am not. In fact, I don't even know that heck that is, heh. I am still learning what alkanes, isopropyl propane and cyclochlorohexane looks like. This stuff is really, really hard for me to grasp. I imagine thermochem is just as hard to figure out. Sounds like some kind of nuclear stuff.

Actually, thermochemistry isn't that hard. There's just a few questions on the extra credit homework that I need help with. I'll go to the tutoring center Tuesday for those.

I really think that b/c this is an accelerated class, we are skipping a bunch....just learning the major things. I'm glad. I don't plan on needing 99.9 % of this in nursing, and the only reason I am taking this class is for my future RN-BSN.

The only thing I've learned so far that I think I'll use in nursing is the review on conversions. lol

Good luck to you! :)
