Chemeketa Kaplan 2019

Published

Hello, I am taking the Kaplan entrance exam tomorrow for Chemeketa Community College. I am super nervous. Has anyone taken it yet this year or last year that can offer advice? Thanks so much :)

20 alternates I’m sorry

I’m so sorry, I was wondering about that too because I know they probably had a lot of duplicate scores and I think the only tie breaker at that point is drawing names from a hat. I wish there was a better way... I’ll let you know if I hear anything on my end. From past comments it seems like they’ve always taken at least ten alternates but of course I have no idea what this year will be like. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for responding, I'm new to the site but have been stalking the posts from afar ? Ya, I figured they probably just drew names for tie breakers, shows how unlucky I am, lol! That would be awesome if u let me know if u hear anything, that way I'd at least know if it's getting close! Hopefully they are still trying to hire another instructor as that would get you right in!! Crazy how competitive the scores were this year!

The science seems to be the most difficult for people. The breakdown (at least when I took it in 2016) was 3 questions cardio, 2 questions F/E, 1 question GI, 1 question hematology, 1 question homeostasis, 2 questions immune system, 4 questions neurology (which I was surprised by that many), 1 question Renal, 4 questions respiratory, and 1 question sensory. My friend has already taken it and there were definitely some questions I recognized and a couple that I distinctly remember that weren't. There much more physiology than anatomy. Know the path of blood through the heart. There were a couple that I didn’t know and had to use process of elimination (1 was not like the other 3 - trust me when I say you’ll have to know that in nursing school. There’s no more 1 question is right and 3 are wrong, but rather all 4 are right, but which is the most right (quite frustrating at times). There’s just sooo much information with A&P and I wouldn’t focus on the very, very finite things at the expense of the broad stuff. I feel lucky to have had Joe Bean for all 3 A&Ps. Definitely helped prepare me for the exam, as well as nursing school. If anyone has any other questions, I am happy to try and help.

Have you ever heard from anyone how many alternates have gotten in? I know every year is totally different, just trying to snoop out some info ;)

In my year, and granted there were 48 spots, I believe as high as alternate 17 got in. The other post was right in that many people have applied to multiple programs and a lot of them tended to choose the four year schools over Chemeketa. Others will end up declining due to financial reasons. I will say, unfortunately, that some of the alternates will not find out till during the summer. If anyone is curious as to the financial costs, message me and I can email you a print out of the rough costs.

Thanks for your response, it's at least good to know that the possibility is there of going through some alternates! Knowing the cost would be awesome, thanks for that! My email is [email protected] , thanks again

Yea what a load! I got 331/335. I just called and asked from their experience if there are usually alternatives and they said yes. I'm alternate #1, so hopefully a small miracle happens.

Have you gotten in yet?? ?

I have not heard anything back yet ? I've been checking my email every day multiple times a day and nothing. Hopefully I'll hear about it soon.

I bet you’ll hear back once all the deadlines are over, hopefully in the next couple days! Let us know ?

UPDATE! I finally heard back, I'm in!!!

Omg!!!! Congratulations!!!! I wonder if more alternates got in with you.. so awesome!!!

what is the likelihood at this point of someone giving up their spot?

Alternates still have a good chance, you never know. When I first applied for fall 2016 I was alternate 20 and it came down to me and 19 left and 19 got in after the first week of class. I was the last person who got to use the 5 alternate points for the next application year before they discontinued it (lucky me!) .

For anyone who needs help with the kaplan exam: use Kahn academy that is online not the kaplan book! The writing and reading is very similar to the SAT practice in Kahn academy and it also goes through videos of A&P! I highly recommend!

Secondly, DON'T GIVE UP! I don't care how many times it takes you to reapply, don't give up your dream. It took me 2 times to get in, and it took my twin sister 4 times and we are now excited to say we are finally graduating in a few days! Getting into the program may seem difficult, but just wait till you actually get in! If you have the drive and the mentality that you are not going to give up and you're going to give it your all every day, you will be successful before you get in, during the program, and after! Keep your heads high to all you alternates and ones that did not get accepted. This year might not be your year and that's okay, cuz next year will be! And for the ones that did get it in, learn a lot, work hard, and don't forget to have fun! This journey will be the greatest experience you'll ever have and you will learn more about yourself because of nursing school! Congrats to all that got in!
