Chemeketa Kaplan 2019

Published

Hello, I am taking the Kaplan entrance exam tomorrow for Chemeketa Community College. I am super nervous. Has anyone taken it yet this year or last year that can offer advice? Thanks so much :)

How did you do on it?

I ended up getting an 80 overall. Which dropped me to 223/235? how did you guys end up doing?

I didn’t do too well. I got 82% which correlates to a 42/50. I think I was told the lowest they accepted last year was 46 so I most likely won’t make it this year. I got 96% out of 100 on math. Around 86% on writing and 77% on reading. I bombed the science, I only got 65%. For some reason the questions were hard for me to understand, I didn’t think they were very straightforward. Im comfortable with the anatomical features and the point of most systems but that didn’t cut it. I think my total points is 327/335.

But this year they added anatomy 231 so it might end up changing the acceptance rate hopefully.

That would be nice because I got an A in that anatomy. I don’t want to give up just yet because it really just depends on the applicant pool so who knows. We might still make it ??

The science part frustrates me the most. I used the study guide and still bombed it ??‍♀️ I got full points in all of the classes so it’ll come down to pure luck at this point.

The science seems to be the most difficult for people. The breakdown (at least when I took it in 2016) was 3 questions cardio, 2 questions F/E, 1 question GI, 1 question hematology, 1 question homeostasis, 2 questions immune system, 4 questions neurology (which I was surprised by that many), 1 question Renal, 4 questions respiratory, and 1 question sensory. My friend has already taken it and there were definitely some questions I recognized and a couple that I distinctly remember that weren't. There much more physiology than anatomy. Know the path of blood through the heart. There were a couple that I didn’t know and had to use process of elimination (1 was not like the other 3 - trust me when I say you’ll have to know that in nursing school. There’s no more 1 question is right and 3 are wrong, but rather all 4 are right, but which is the most right (quite frustrating at times). There’s just sooo much information with A&P and I wouldn’t focus on the very, very finite things at the expense of the broad stuff. I feel lucky to have had Joe Bean for all 3 A&Ps. Definitely helped prepare me for the exam, as well as nursing school. If anyone has any other questions, I am happy to try and help.

I got an 80% also. I know in the past they used to give alternates from the previous year an extra 5 points but they aren’t doing that this year so that will help it be more fair for those applying for the first time. They also allowed people to retake the Kaplan before if they wanted to improve their score if there were spots available.. and I’ve heard the average was low to mid 70s before people retook it - so that helps us since we got 80 or so the first time. So here’s to hoping we still have a chance to get in! The wait is already killing me.

I’m definitely holding out hope. It’ll depend on this year’s average and I truthfully think anatomy is also going to play a big role in it. I know people in my anatomy series were fine with C’s in 231 because it didn’t count against us. It’s nice there aren’t alternate points to even out the playing field. It’s my second year applying so it would be nice to get in? I just realized I said 223 out of 235...I definitely meant 323 lol

I have 323 also. Fingers crossed that that will be enough! Or at least for the alternate list. The nursing advisor I talked with said that they definitely don’t except C’s in the A&P series. Not sure if that’s true or not, but it costs points either way. But don’t they consider A’s and B’s the same though for A&P?

Yes, I am still hopeful that we will make the alternate list at least. Chemeketa does count A's and B's the same for A&P which helps.
