Chemeketa CC Fall 2014 Nursing Program

U.S.A. Oregon

Hi, I completed my proctored essay on Saturday, and now, the waiting begins. I was hoping we could share scores when the emails are send out May 2nd. Anyone else feeling impatient?

Oh, and they selected 56 students for the program last year. I haven't heard how many for this year's application pool will be selected.

My friend asked what the lowest score that got accepted for last year, it was either 356 or 346.... She told me few months ago. I hope it's 346.

Is anyone else really nervous about getting in? Its my dream to be an RN but at the same time I'm nervous about how to be able to work while going to school. Is anyone planning on getting loans or what advise to you have?

I am currently finishing my first year in the chemeketa program, I know for a fact the lowest score was not 346 because someone I know who applied with me got a 354 and did not get in. However I should also add last year we had around 192ish people who took the essay, and I heard that it was 160ish this year. For all of those who get in, better be prepared, it is a very difficult program.

Hello everyone, I am applying to Chemeketa in 2015 and I have a few questions. I was curious to those who have less than the full points, did you apply without earning an A grade in any of the electives? Did you apply without earning an A or B in the A&P classes? Just curious because when I attended the Nursing orientation they stressed how important it is to earn A grades in all the electives like writing, general ed etc... And that a B is the same in points as an A.

^^ sorry didn't specify, I meant a B is the same as an A in points for only the A&P classes.

To Future Nurse 2020, you said all those who are accepted must be prepared. Can you specify what you mean in more detail? Can you give an example of what the first term might be like?

You truly do want A's in everything, but you are correct, the A's and B's score the same for the 3 Bio's you have to take (A&P 2&3, and Microbiology). I got B's in my Sociology elective and my social sciences elective, as well as all of my A&P classes. So overall I'm not missing very many points. Try not to make your course load too heavy each term when you are doing pre-reqs, that way you can focus on getting the grades you need the first time, instead of retaking classes.

@mae for me, when clinicals begin it is a relief. The first 2 weeks of the program I had major growing pains. There are many people in the program who have families and bills. It is definitely doable but it is hard and time consuming. You will quickly learn that a lot of very smart people will not make it. Not because they are not smart and not because they don't try but because they don't do well on nclex style questions. I don't mean to discourage anyone but in my opinion you will have growing pains. You will either adapt or you won't. I can say however that I am very happy I am here, it is definitely worth the pain. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

I thought I might elaborate on what I meant before I went off on my tangent. The first few weeks of each term is straight lecture which simply put, is brutal. After that Thursday/Fridays are clinicals which for me is much more manageable than lecture 5 days/week. Let me break it down for you another way. Every 2 weeks you have an exam starting on the second Tuesday after the term starts. Assuming you have an average of 2-3 classes per day you would have to be prepared to be tested on 10-15 classes (depending on if you have a skills day.) So that is 10-15 classes you need to be ready for 9 days after the term begins. The next test will be 2 weeks from that point, if I remember correctly it's either the 3rd or 4th week clinicals begins. As soon as clinicals begins you still have the same number of classes/day but 2 days/week is dedicated to clinicals making it less material/test. These are my personal opinions, I'm sure others in our class may disagree with me. For me the first month of the program was the most difficult (so far.)

Wow FutureNurse2020, that was a great description. You put it into a perspective from a student which sounds very intense. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer questions.

I am lost in all the Chemeketa forums threads. There are at least three!

I have a 356, and besides wondering what the heck I did wrong on my essay, I am just waiting on tenterhooks like everyone else. I am hoping to find out more about the schedule during school like everyone else too.
