It's so sad that this goes on so much, but at the same time so appalling I found myself laughing.
You know what's really sad though? And believe me, I thought these clips were pretty funny. But what's sad is that NON-drug-seekers go to the hospital for legitimate pain and are treated just like this. As I was listening to some of the triage clips I realized that I had been treated the same way when I came in for a herniated disc that wouldn't respond to Tylenol. I see, now, that my first mistake was in telling them what was wrong with me(because I had herniated the same disc 3 yrs prior, so I know what it feels like.) Then I gave them all my 12 drug allergies, which happen to include Advil(anaphylaxis in 2005), Codeine (Anaphylaxis in 1977), Ultram & Maxalt(severe hallucinations), and Imitrex (chest pain). Oh, and Lithium(hives.) My third mistake was giving them my list of meds, which includes my bipolar meds. Yeah. I got *that* look. "And what do you take those for, miss?" Yeah, like you don't know, you moron. So the doctor decides he'll give me a Vicodin. Well...I appreciate that, but I've taken it before, when I herniated the disc the first time and it made me sick as a dog. I can take one percocet, however, and it helps a lot and doens't make me sick.
Diagnosis? Drug-seeking.
OMG.....I watched a few clips and thought I was seeing my cousin who is a habitual complainer..she is always going to the DR or ER for some reason, wanting more and more drugs for what ever she thinks her problem is, (and the DR's give it to her!) I told her recently that she needed psychiatric help because she is not right...she got mad at me..but you know what..she is getting the help she is needing, she is going to group counseling begining tomorrow!
So sad, but these types of things actually play out in the "real non cartoon world"...
since this thread isn't about people with real seizures, i can't really see any reason for you to be offended. it's not like they said "omg peeple wif seezures suxxxxxxxxx!"
there is a broad assumption that any seizure someone has that does not render them unconscious, senseless, limp, etc. must be a feeble attempt to get drugs. the thread does not have to be about
people having real seizures.
what is so offensive is many nurses and some non-neuros blanket opinion that other types of seizures'cannot possibly be real.

i did not intend to imply that all people who show up in er's stating they've had a seizure are seeking drugs. some of them are legit. some are not. people also use back, tooth, and headache pain in an attempt to obtain narcotics. there are (of course) people who really have that kind of pain as well. i'm sorry you took offense.

oh my gosh, i never saw these clips before.
there was a list of them on the youtube page...
and i watched a few.
a few of them were about med-seeking in the er, one was about calling 911 for constipation, another was about vag bleeding...
i just sat there, half-chuckling at its satirical authenticity.
