I'm looking for a cheap steth that has good sound. My school gave us cheap steths that have pretty awful sound, and I'm having major trouble hearing with mine, so I'm looking to get another, but I don't want to spend a lot of money on it...I'm thinking not over $30 or so, if possible.
Suggestions?

Simply put--you get what you pay for. Most people here will tell you to go for either Littmann or UltraScope.

hey! im having the same problem. You might wantto just browse the web, one of my friends(also in nursing school ) is currently an EMT and let me noe that the good ones will cost u a lil more about 70 or 80. Look for Littmann which i have herd is pretty good also! & also u shud think about it as an investment bcuz u will be using it for a while :) Good luck!
I'm a 19 year old college sophomore with no job...I don't have money to spend on things other than essentials like food.
I also don't want anything expensive that'll just walk away on me during NS. Once I graduate and get out of the hospital setting, that'll be much less likely.

Ultrascope is like the Cheap version of Littmann with having the name Littmann
So, I found out that the reason I couldn't hear anything with my steth was that my particular one was a dud. We were doing our second vitals practice lab, and my partner forgot her steth, so we were sharing mine, and I complained about not being able to hear anything, then when she tried, she said that she couldn't hear either and that my steth had worse sound than hers (and the whole class got the same one)...so I talked to the lab director, and I got a new one which I can hear with, but it's not great. It'll do for now though, until I can get something better.
I've been looking on Amazon, and I found the Omron Sprague Rappaport for $10...it has a pretty good rating 4 stars and 80 reviews...and from what I can tell, the biggest complaint is that it's uncomfortable.
Anyone here have any experience with it? I'm thinking about getting it.
Then, for my birthday, I'm probably going to ask my parents to get me a better quality steth...possibly 2 (like on Allheart when they have those good deals).

Cheap and good do not belong in the same sentence.
The scope you referred to is garbage...to be honest.
For around $30 you can pick up a Littmann Select, Lightweight, or used Classic on Ebay all day long.

Cheap and good quite often belong in the same sentence. Now that may not be true with steths, but with many other things...for example, state schools, food, pens etc.
Have you used the steth I referred to?
And also, I have an issue with a used steth. I'm not gonna buy and use something that someone else has already used. That skeeves me out.

well then there are many littmann selects and lightweights new for around $30, just have to look.
edit: btw look at the "best ink pen" thread, many of the pens the posters are refering to are not cheap lol. no one says, "oh i love .06 cent bic ball point pens!!!"
In New York, where I'm from, the tuition at state schools is about $4,000/year. That is quite cheap compared to the tuition at any private school...but the education at many of them is just as good if not better! Take SUNY Binghamton or Stonybrook for example. GREAT schools with low price tags!
Where I'm from, there are so many places to get great food that's cheap. One of my favorite places in town is a Mexican place, and unless you're getting an insane amount of food, you'll probably be paying about $7-10 for your meal. It's delicious, good quality, and CHEAP.
You're not gonna get me to change my mind about cheap and good belonging in the same sentence.

LOL, well maybe not today at least but there is a reason why chuck steak is $1.99 a lb and good filet mignon can be $18.99 a lb.
I know nurses who uses the diposbale scopes found in hospitals and they are happy with them, acoustics little better than using a paper cup...to each his own.
If you want the best bang for the buck then I would look into one of the Littmanns I pointed out.
