My name is Jamie. I attended the first application session today at Chattahoochee Tech for the Fall 2016 program. I've enjoyed following the last two groups of prospective students on these boards and thought I would see if I could get one started for the 2016 applicants. I'd love to get to know other prospectives and share the emotional rollercoaster that hopefully ends on a high!! :)
That is awesome! I have a journalism degree and have been a photographer for many years. í ½í¸‚ Total change. I worry about how that will be perceived if I get an interview. But I've wanted this my entire life and know I can do it well if they'll give me the chance. Are you applying to the bridge program or the standard?
hi everyone! I know sometimes there will be a current nursing student that joins this type of thread, so this is directed to you ;-) In the admission session, she said they couldn't really give a schedule because every year is different, but what has this year been like? I.e., did you have class from 8-5mtw and clinicals on th/f? I know it changes midway through the semester and every semester, but I like to have a sense of what to expect!
You are correct Akabensmom, every year the instructors adjust the schedule. Each semester the schedule is adjusted on clinical dates given by hospitals. Also since this is a new program they adjust to make each semester better than the last. You can have clinical Monday-Saturday. Our first semester we went two days a week and only the second half of the semester. The first half you are going to skills lab to learn the skills you will need for clinical. Lectures are 4+ hours and can be one or two days a week. Then you will have skills lab days where you learn the skill from instructors. You will have open lab days where you can go for practice. And you will have checkoff days where you will test on those skills. You will also have days in the computer lab doing ATI. You will also have 2 ish group projects, 2 ish papers, and service learning. In addition you will have online homework and ATI. Your schedule will be crazy! The first semester I was doing something for school everyday of the week, clinical Mon and Tues, class Wed, skills Thur/Fri, and I would study all weekend. It is easy to get overwhelmed so try to take one day a week and doing something not school related! The only thing that saves me each semester is to put it all in a planner, I use my iPhone. You will get your whole schedule each semester as soon as blackboard opens and there is usually only minor changes to it through the semester. Each semester your schedule will change, since your clinical dates will change. I am so excited for all of you and wish you all good luck in the upcoming weeks!
I see some newbies....welcome to the group. I know I've been awfully quiet. Well, I have an 8 month old baby girl that I'm trying to get on a schedule....its not going too well lol but it's OK. And I work week days as a home health caregiver to an MS patient. And there's a whole lot more going on with me right now so I decided not to retake the TEAS. I pray & hope to get an interview with 280 points.
Thanks Ashley and Patricia for your input.
All the best to everyone!!!
Thanks Patricia! I remember you from following your group here last year. Hard to forget "Biscuits and Cheese," I was so excited for you all when everything unfolded as it did. Vigilant Nurse (sorry I'm forgetting your name), congrats on your baby. Such a sweet, but sleepless time. I was just looking at Banner. I see that the foundations class will be weds from 9-1 (the entire semester) and adult health w/th from 1:30-5:30 (first half of the semester). I know there will be a lot more, but glad to see this much. If "we are praying for rain, we better prepare the field". I know several of you have children too. Hoping the "rain" pours so it is time to find two of my kids rides home on those two days! ?

I feel the same way. I am just trying to keep myself busy with the kids and work so I don't go crazy.
