Chattahoochee Technical College ADN program 2020

Published

Hi my name is Samantha, I am currently a CST (certified surgical technologist) at CHOA, and I am considering applying to the ADN program for fall 2020! I actually completed the Surgical Tech program at Chatt Tech, and since then have been working at CHOA, I love my job there and love being a surgical tech, but really want to advance my career in the medical field by becoming an RN! I took my teas a few years ago before the surg tech program and got a 70 which is the minimum score and have a 3.46 GPA after the program. I would love to discuss with anyone thoughts about the program and any advise, about program admission, working while in the program, and tips and tricks for a higher score on the teas and CT exam!

I finally got the email for the critical thinking test while at work today. I began to read and it said that they were unable to access my TEAS results so I was ineligible. I quickly responded and sent in the downloaded results sheet from ATI. It didn’t take long for them to send an email back with the link to sign up for the CTE ?. I’m hoping and praying I get in, I already got denied at WGTC, my core GPA was too low.

I got the email invite for the CTE, but it's doubtful I'll take it since I've been accepted elsewhere. That should clear up a spot (I had an 85 on the TEAS and A's in all the science prereqs as well as the extra classes like psych and sociology and higher than a 3.7GPA). CTC just took too long. There is no way they should have extended the TEAS that long and kept the CTE. They should have waived the CTE this year.

Now students won't know until August. After going through everything that needs to be done at a different school prior to starting, I can tell you that 2 weeks is not enough time unless you do not have a job or any other obligations. Hopefully, everyone has all the vaccines and Hep B titer done in advance, as well as BLS. Once you're accepted you'll likely still need the drug/background, physical, TB tests, etc...

I also got the email prior stating they didn't have my TEAS. I called ATI and they said that CTC didn't have the correct date range in there to view any TEAS score before a certain date. I sent mine in February. Once I communicated that, they quickly found it.

I hope you get in, but I think CTC is even more competitive, especially this year. They've said only 40, with closer to 400 applications. The closer you get to Atlanta, the more competitive it will get, just due to the number of applicants.

Yeah, it’s very late compared to other schools. I did all of my prerequisites at WGTC but the requirements for their school are crazy. They want a 3.2 in core, 75 on TEAS. The TEAS was fine, however, I had a 2.94 core GPA. That school has left a bad taste. I retook the math class to bring my B up to an A. I got an A on everything did bad on the final and instead of the instructor using the % that he sent in several emails, he used what was on the syllabus and my appeal was denied. I retook AP2 to bring up my C—had a lot going on—the instructor insisted that I didn’t turn in a quiz that would’ve helped my grade which is impossible because he gave them at the beginning of class and I wasn’t absent that day. No points, same grade received. ??‍♀️

Yeah, I’m not getting my hopes up for any school but I’m remaining positive. I’m still applying to 3 other schools. SCT, Gordon, and SU.

Has anyone gotten any feedback with how the classes are going to be structured with COVID, or how they were structured in the Spring when it hit? Some schools are moving to a primarily zoom/online structure, and I'm not a big fan of that.

Did you go to the info/application session? There were quite a few people in mine. Probably close to 100, and there were 5 total sessions.

From the last virtual session the lady over nursing said it would be virtual for classes, orientation and lab. And she’ll see when the hospital start letting them back in how clinical will go

Did yall notice that the CTE update email sent out today went to only 70 people. If only 70 are talking it thats good odds.

It looks like the update was sent alphabetically. The email I got had 54 and it was all A through D last names.

What did the update you received say?

I got one that said the deadline was 2:00 pm, because I had not registered, however, there were 86 recipients, all of which I assumed were the ones that had not yet registered. There were probably 100+ more that did.

But as I stated previously, I just decided to stick with the first school that accepted me. I felt good about my chances, but I was not willing to wait that long to find out if I was in.

It seems like those emails were mass emails. I got one about needing to register by 2pm, however, I registered last week. I also got one saying that because I didn’t use my school email I needed to reapply next year, even though I did use my school email. I had to send an email to let them know that was an error. So, it seems like every email was sent to the masses even if it didn’t apply to you.
