Hi my name is Samantha, I am currently a CST (certified surgical technologist) at CHOA, and I am considering applying to the ADN program for fall 2020! I actually completed the Surgical Tech program at Chatt Tech, and since then have been working at CHOA, I love my job there and love being a surgical tech, but really want to advance my career in the medical field by becoming an RN! I took my teas a few years ago before the surg tech program and got a 70 which is the minimum score and have a 3.46 GPA after the program. I would love to discuss with anyone thoughts about the program and any advise, about program admission, working while in the program, and tips and tricks for a higher score on the teas and CT exam!

I am looking to apply to both the surgical tech program and the ASN program for the fall. I haven’t seen many people post anything about for a while now. Hopefully that means less competition! How is surg tech? Do they make good money here in GA?

Hey! Yeah it depends on where you work and if you are certified or not, a hospital may pay more than a surgery center, and some hospital also pay more if you are certified, I am making around 22-23 an hour which I think is pretty good for only being 2 years out of school.

That’s pretty good! Do we become certified When graduating from Chatt? And what are your hours like in surg? Sorry for all the questions lol it’s just that I’m applying for surg too and I’ll I have to go off of is the internet lol.

At the end of the program the whole class takes the test. The hours also depend on where you work I for an example work at a surgery center so I work Monday-Friday 6:45-3:30 sometimes til 5, so my shift is 8hrs sometimes 10 if you are on the late schedule. Hospitals sometimes have longer shifts like 3 12hrs or 4 10hrs and nights. And no problem I wish I had someone to talk to before applying i know it would’ve been really helpful!

This is really good info. As far as the nursing, it’s so crazy to me that there’s NO current info on here as the years pass. That’s odd to me.

Thank you for sharing your surg info

I took my TEAS a few years ago before the surg tech program and got a 70 which is the minimum score and have a 3.46 GPA after the program. I'm applying. Just took the TEAS today.

Have you completed all of the pre-reqs? Also, you may want to retake the TEAS to bump that score up some. Remember that is the minimum acceptable score. Most schools would make you retake, but I don't think there is an expiration at CTC. The nursing pre-req grades will weigh in, as well: A&P 1&2, Microbiology, Psychology, etc...

Yes I am planning on retaking the TEAS, honestly I will probably be applying next Year instead of this fall, haven’t really had much time to prepare this year because of work. I also have already taken all the pre-reqs.

I’m thinking about retaking mine too. I got a 73

From what I've seen on some older posts, it looks like a lot more people start posting after the application deadline. We'll see.

Good Luck!

Did you go to the info/application session? There were quite a few people in mine. Probably close to 100, and there were 5 total sessions.
