2011 Charles drew university Clinical nurse leader EL-MSN

Published

Hello,

I'm new to this board and just recently got an email to attend an interview for the clinical nurse leader - entry level masters of nursing next week at Charles drew university. I was wondering if anyone else has gotten an interview? I would like to talk to some of you interested in attending this program. I visited the campus and spoke to some faculty, it seems like an amazing place. Look forward to talking to some of you in the same boat as I am in.

Sincerely,

Ms1988

Its approved by WASC. other schools that are approved by WASC are CSULB, CSUF etc

direct quote from school:

"The program was granted initial approval by the California Board of Registered Nursing in June 2009. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges granted its approval in March 2009."

WASC is different from CCNE and NLN. WASC accredits the whole University in general. Where as CCNE and NLN accredits the nursing program itself. Although it is approved by California BRN, it is not accredited. It will only affect students who has plans to get doctorate degree.

anyone get an acceptance letter yet?

Congratulations! That's good to hear and was pretty quick. Cherish your next 2 months before you have to hit the books. Hopefully I'll be able to join you soon. I have my interview/TEAS coming up soon, so I have about a week of anticipation and preparation until that, then I'll have to still play the waiting game.

thank you. Yeah i wish i could relax, im finishing up microbiology this summer. Did anyone else hear back from CDU?

Yea I just got my letter... :)) i'm excited to finally start this fall. one thing is keeping me in limbo though... they haven't posted where they place nursing students in clinicals. I have an issue with that, if they don't rotate us in a hospital i feel like i'm going to waste $54,000 on a program that might not get me a job. Don't get me wrong I'm totally stoked, but I do have serious plans to pay off school loans in a year- so landing that job is important to me.

Hi All,

I have my interview on Tuesday and I'm kinda nervous about it. I plan to spend the weekend studying for the TEAS. I hope the fact that I recently took the GRE and had to CLEP English will help. I have a few questions. Does anyone know how many students are accepted into program? I'm trying to figure out how to survive the next two years, if I get in. Any thoughts on how to finance school and living expenses? Working is frown upon during the program but is anyone considering getting a part-time job?

They accept 40 students this cohort and they've already accepted quite a few. We're in the same boat (just finished GRE/studying for the TEAS). I have my interview/test on the 11th.

I want to work part-time if possible (something health-related) & I'm waiting to hear back from their Financial Aid office for the status of my app. I'm a lil nervous too, but everything will be fine. Just be yourself and put your best foot forward. Good luck!

Yea I'm currently planning out the next two years... 3 because all, if not most, of my tuition will be loans and plan to sacrifice an entire year after school (hopefully) to pay at least 90% of my debt (6 months without interest). I also am planning to work part time during school....i found really good advice on a different thread about working minimally the first semester to tread waters to get the hang of how much time you'd need to devote to school and other things and then the second semester you'll be able to assess your situation better. For me, I'll probably increase work hours if I find I can handle a few more hours a week of work... right now I think I might work 3-5 days a month.

Hardworkpasoff,

I meant to send you a note wishing you well on your interview but I'm sure you did great. Now, it is a waiting game. Let's hope we both get in! Best of luck!

Hey djdada! Thank you & good luck to you tomorrow as well. It was long but time flew by. They were really down to earth & made the whole process less scary. You'll be fine & I hope we both hear good news soon!

For anyone who went to the interview day yesterday (7/12) we have to be dressed professionally next week when we take the TEAS because we'll be meeting w/----- after. I gave the office a call earlier.
