Charity School of Nursing Fall 2019

Hey, just wanted to create this forum for people that are going to apply to Charity for Fall 2019. That's when I feel I will be ready to apply! I'm still working on my prereqs!

I was planning to register for the kaplan, spots filled up so quickly for Hesi I almost didnt make it. Im just a little nervous too and i dont want to risk having to wait any longer to possibly start. Im trying not to think about it so the time goes by fast!!

If accepted is anyone going to try and work while in school? Im gonna have to get student loans but was thinking about also having a part time job maybe

Yeah I’m going to have to keep working while in school. I only plan on working 12 hours a week tho. I’ll need some extra money to pay for daycare and other little things.

I'm trying to not work, at least for the first semester. I am fortunate to have a friend loan me money so I can do this. However, not working the whole program seems unrealistic for me so probably work during the breaks and few days here and there. Trying to save up money right now...

BTW.. 30 more Days!!?

I'm feeling so nervous about the process. I applied with a HESI score of 92, Delgado GPA of 4.0 for one semester, and 65 points. (I hadn't finished A&P II but taking it this semester.) BUT, my previous school transcript from many years ago was basically trash. So, I'm really not sure how my application looks.

I managed to squeeze in intro bio with lab, a&p I with lab, stats, and a humanities class to get my pre-reqs into one semester so I could apply in January. I hope it shows that I'm a stronger student now than I was in the past.

Three and a half weeks to go...

You took all those classes in one semester, and still maintained a 4.0?! That's awesome!

As far as I know, in previous years the minimum cutoff profile scores have been between 50-65. Hopefully (for our sake) they won't be upping their standards this round, or that there aren't an overabundance of people applying with extremely high profile scores.

I went to the information session at City Park last week and one woman (I don't remember what her role was within Charity, she didn't even really introduce herself when she came up to speak) talked about how applicants were taking the HESI multiple times to up there score, then apply with HESI scores of 90+ and still not able to make it through the program. She said that they were switching to the Kaplan exam and limiting the time you can take it to once per application period because they were hoping to avoid that in the future.

I think they want students in the program that actually have a chance of making it all the way through and also pass the state boards. They want their numbers to look good, and that's not happening when they accept a certain amount of applicants and a number of those students can't pass the boards (or the program).

Thanks so much! I wanted to go to that session but had to work. Ha, now begins the debating if I should register for the March Kaplan exam period. They're not giving us much of a time buffer there at all.

Did anyone else just recieve this email:

PLEASE NOTE CHANGE…The Dean of Nursing informed me that we will no longer be accepting any HESI scores for future application periods. Thus, ALL applicants must take the Kaplan at DCC if you plan to apply to any of our nursing programs.

It says “future application periods” so I would hope this doesn’t apply to those of us who have already applied for the Fall 2019 session.

Im just wondering why they are just now sending this out, because it’s been on Charity’s website since Jan. 31st that they were only accepting the Kaplan.

Yes i got it too! I think we are good though. Just contemplating signing up to take in case i dont get in this go round

I didn't get this email either. I hate these last minute changes. Half don't know what's going on and the other half only knows part of it. It's chaos.

So I signed up for the Kaplan just to be safe. I signed up for the 29th in hopes that I get accepted and I won’t have to take it. But I have noticed that spots are filling up rather quickly.
