Changes to WGU effective October 1, 2014

Nursing Students Western Governors

So, I had my final intake interview done in the end of August, all my transcripts were done and evaluated and I was ready to start in October, 2014 with my RN to BSN program. BUT, I received a call from my adviser today and she told me that there will be changes to my transcripts evals. Everyone has to take Health Assessment now, starting October 1, 2014. As of right now they accepted my Health assessment classes (I took two from Carrington college and 1 from Chamberlain College). Now they are not going to take it and I will be receiving the updated transcript evaluations. I think it is total cow poop. If they already accepted mine they should leave it alone. Does it mean that if along the way when they have changes they will make them half way the program?

I DO NOT WANT TO TAKE THAT STUPID ASSESSMENT CLASS FOR THE FOURTH TIME!!!!!!!! Sorry, just complaining. :(

I meant, half way through the program

When does make midpoint changes, it is usually for the betterment of everyone who has a stake in the school.

For instance, I started the RN-to-BSN program on May 1st of this year. My mentor recently enrolled me in the Probability & Statistics course, which had not been on the degree plan that I was issued when I started the program.

The Applied Healthcare Statistics had been the course on my original degree plan, but that class has since been retired due to so many students struggling with it.

Midway during my program the statistics requirement was changed to a Probability & Stats course that is supposed to be more understandable and user-friendly. We shall see in the next coming weeks.

However, I do not blame you for being upset at having to take Health Assessment once again. For what it is worth, I personally know of no one who was able to be exempted from taking it since most of our original ADN/diploma programs didn't list a specific Health Assessment course on our transcripts.

It would have been nice if they had either left it alone or offered for you to make it your choice. Either of these options are sensible for someone that should be grandfathered for a rule change.

I'm in the old MSN program (capstone totally different - an IRB research study). I was told by my mentor last week that in the first week of September, everyone who hasn't started their Capstone or the lit review will be moved to the new Capstone. I have Lit Review in my list of classes for this semester, but I haven't started it yet. I'm hoping that since I haven't done any tasks yet, they will move me to the new Capstone program.

And as is competency based, having to 'retake' health assessment could just be a 'blip' in your program. The test should be no problem with a bit of review, then you do a video of yourself performing an assessment. Could be done in a week if it's material you already know! :) I had to retake a few classes and they went by so quickly I barely noticed.

Lazarusstyles,

I am sorry you are having to take Health Assessment again, I am starting the RN to BSN program Oct 1 as well and will have to take Health Assessment even though I had it in my ADN program. Hopefully we can move through it quickly!

Thank you for your sympathy. I guess, I just was frustrated with the fact that it was changed on me. Just want to be done faster and move on to NP. :(

If you've taken it 3 times already, you should be able to pass the exam right away and be done with it. The assessment video is very easy; they even give you a checklist to use while you're doing it. If you had already been in the program, then you'd be grandfathered in. Since you are technically not a student until you enroll after 10/1, then any changes that are effective 10/1 would apply to you.

I think I will just take it first and get it over with. I hate being videotaped. Just hate it, so I am not thrilled about it. That is the only reason I am so upset about taking it.

Videotaped?

Member must have been referring to the Health Assessment course recording and/or the ProctorU webcam monitoring for objective assessments. Since 'videotaping' is an obsolete technology that few (if any) people do in the 21st century, perhaps 'recording' would have been a more appropriate term.

Of course, students who dislike remote webcam monitoring through ProctorU can avoid this process altogether by taking all objective assessments at a testing center.
