Hello everyone, I am interested in applying to Chamberlain for 2020 at the Pearland campus in Texas. Iv'e been doing research, and some of the bad reviews frighten me... please feel free to comment anything regarding Chamberlain if you are also on the same boat as me, or already a student there.
Im so scared of being declined admission at Chamberlain. My transcript is not the best, but I have a 3.21 GPA and have an AA in Business. I am currently studying for the HESI, as I feel that can save me. ???

Yes, I'm from Sacramento. I don't have family in Texas.
Hello,
I found this thread because I am interested in the Pearland campus. It is literally 7 min from me. However, I am worried because I have a Bachelor's in Business but my GPA for that was a 2.9 and I am currently taking pre-reqs at San Jac. Should I still apply? Continue with pre-reqs? Any advice would be helpful thank you

Hi! I currently attend the pearland campus and I hope my advice can be somewhat helpful towards your journey to nursing school. I really feel like you would benefit from finishing your pre-reqs at San Jacinto and then applying to Chamberlain. It may actually knock some of the time off that you’ll have to spend at Chamberlain and you can jump straight into the nursing classes because your pre-reqs will already be out of the way.

Thank you! I spoke with an admission rep today they told me since I already have a degree and some of the classes it will knock time off. Do you have a list of the pre-reqs? Right now with San Jac I am scheduled for A&P 1 and Nutrition

They told you exactly right! I took majority of my pre-reqs at HCC and received my associate degree so I’ll be finished with chamberlain next September. I don’t have a list but to my knowledge A&P, Speech, Ethics, English 1301, and Philosophy are just some of the pre-reqs. I will advise you to make sure that you pass A&P with either an A or a B. They will let you get by with science classes if you earn a C but only if you pass the HESI with a 72 or higher for that section. I didn’t do well in A&P at HCC so I had to retake A&P 1 at chamberlain my first semester. I passed the HESI for that section so I didn’t have to take the second part of it. Also, chamberlain breaks up the A&P classes into four sections. Lastly, I would ask them about whether or not it’s necessary for you to take nutrition. I took it at HCC and my advisor at chamberlain said the credit was non-transferable towards my degree plan because chamberlain has their own nutrition class that they require you to complete and subsequently pass.

Oh wow, well that sucks LOL... I already paid for that nutrition class. All the other classes you listed I have those. The Eng, Philosophy etc.
Overall, how do you like your experience? Did it cut down on your tuition since you already had classes? I am super nervous about the HESI

My tuition was not as expensive as I thought it would be. I believe that the nursing classes cost more than the pre-reqs though. I like it here but I’ve ran into problems with student services and I also had a terrible Professor for one of my classes last semester. Always check rate my Professor before registering for classes. Also, I wouldn’t say the HESI was hard but it’s very time consuming. They had us take it after we were already accepted and it was entirely online. Depending on when you plan on applying and the fact that the campuses are still closed, you may have to take it online as well. The science and english sections weren’t difficult but math isn’t my strong suit and I struggled a bit. It has a lot of conversions, which threw me off, but the algebra was pretty easy.

This is what I like to hear! I appreciate your honesty. I plan to apply for May... I get anxiety when it comes to nursing school and the TEAS/HESI I've had so many failed attempts. Hopefully my tuition won't be expensive either because that is my biggest worry right now. I work at the hospital now so I know they would pay for it but still those fees add up. Is there anything else I should know about trying to get accepted?

I can’t think of anything else at the moment. Just make sure to pass A&P 1 and 2 with a high enough grade so you won’t have to stress yourself out retaking it at chamberlain. I didn’t do well when I took A&P 1 at HCC but I passed both the lab and class portion of A&P 2. I had to retake A&P 1 at chamberlain my first semester and it was grueling. Thankfully, when we took the HESI, I passed the A&P portion with a high enough score to not have to take the second part of it last semester. I also wouldn’t stress too much about your GPA because I know of people who got in last semester with a 2.8 GPA. You will also have to write a paragraph stating your passion for wanting to be a nurse/healthcare worker and your purpose. When I applied, I believe they were basing the admission on only our GPA and our passion/purpose statements that we had to write. It wasn’t required at the time for us to take the HESI for admission. I’m not sure if they’ll require it when you apply but make sure your prepared just in case. Once your accepted, make sure you print out your degree plan. It’ll have all the classes your supposed to take broken up into different categories depending on the semester so you can easily follow along when it’s time to register and throughout your time at chamberlain.
@kenyam0116 Hey ! I just submitted my Passion statement and I was told that they review the statements on Friday's. What all have you completed so far? I hope they accecpt my transfer credits from HCC. I am also applying to Lone Star and HCC. I do not want to hold off any longer for nursing school. The goal is to start school by May 3rd or August, but January 2022 the latest. I also work at the hospital I hope that is taken into consideration on getting in.

Are you from Sacramento? My family is actually moving to Austin area, so I asked for San Antonio campus so it’s closer, but my advisor told me I need to apply to Houston first and try to transfer to San Antonio.
