Should I go to WGU or traditional nursing school?
WGU's pre-licensure program is just as good as any traditional brick and mortal nursing school you can attend. To say it's a way of "loosening and lowering the standards in response to the nursing crisis" is an asinine response. No matter what nursing school you attend we all STILL receive the same education and have to take the same state board exam to become an RN.

Discouraged at Chamberlain
Even though this is a super old post, I really hate when people start attributing grades to taking care of patients. First of all, it's a REQUIREMENT made by chamberlain that you must pass with a 76% or higher in core and overall. Secondly, your grades in nursing school doesn't determine or dictate whether you'll be a good nurse or able to care for patients effectively. There's tons of nurses that got C's in classes when they were in nursing school or passed classes with a 76%. They were STILL able to finish nursing school, pass the N-CLEX, and become an RN. I wish y'all would break out of the mindset that you need to be this world-class stellar student that makes nothing but A's in order to be a good nurse. Any nurse will tell you you don't truly learn anything until you actually start working. I guarantee you a patient isn't gonna be sitting there asking you what your GPA was and what grades you got in your classes while they're in the hospital being tended too.

Does anyone know when we’re supposed to receive our financial aid refunds?
I’m in a program. I’m currently completing 2 out of four of my pre-requisites so my classes are online for both this semester and next semester. I resume my nursing classes the beginning of next year.

Does anyone know when we’re supposed to receive our financial aid refunds?
Hey! I started that session too and I received mine two or three weeks ago.

Does anyone know when we’re supposed to receive our financial aid refunds?
I attend chamberlain nursing school and I have not been able to find anything related to when we’re supposed to receive disbursements from financial aid. The college I attended prior to Chamberlain always had specific dates of when we would be getting our refunds depending on the session and whether we started classes late or early. It’s hard getting in touch with people at this school and I find it strange that an accredited school like this has no information about it at all.

When I applied for chamberlain last year, the HESI wasn’t required for admission because of COVID and everything being locked down. The only thing they took into account was my passion into purpose statement and my GPA from when I was at HCC. A couple months into my first semester at chamberlain, they suddenly wanted us to take the HESI despite me being told prior that I would not have to worry about it. They had us take it on the computer and we also had to use a program through Google chrome, which was similar to lockdown browser, where we had to have our webcams turned on and we were recorded taking our exam the whole time. It takes about 5 hours on average to finish the exam because there’s so many parts but I finished it fairly quickly. I had studied for the HESI quite a lot before applying to chamberlain because I knew it was a requirement, but I was ecstatic to find out it wasn’t required at the time. I had a classmate from my A&P class at chamberlain that sent me study guides for the HESI so I could refresh some of the info.

Hey girl! I really like the program. Of course, nursing school isn’t easy so I’ve actually taken a break both last semester and this semester to protect my mental health due to stress and I didn’t want to have a mental breakdown or a burn out from nursing in general. I will tell you that the courseload is very rigorous because instead of being 16 week classes, everything is condensed into 8 weeks. You will REALLY have to make sure your on top of your A game. It’s very easy to fall behind with how fast paced the program is. All in all they’re getting us prepared for the NCLEX so remember that everything your learning will be applied one day whether it’s on the NCLEX or when your working in the health care field. Take in as much as you can but not to the point where you’ve reached your breaking point. The only thing I don’t really like is how we don’t get extensive breaks in between each session or for Summer but it’s all in preparation for when we actually start working.

I can’t think of anything else at the moment. Just make sure to pass A&P 1 and 2 with a high enough grade so you won’t have to stress yourself out retaking it at chamberlain. I didn’t do well when I took A&P 1 at HCC but I passed both the lab and class portion of A&P 2. I had to retake A&P 1 at chamberlain my first semester and it was grueling. Thankfully, when we took the HESI, I passed the A&P portion with a high enough score to not have to take the second part of it last semester. I also wouldn’t stress too much about your GPA because I know of people who got in last semester with a 2.8 GPA. You will also have to write a paragraph stating your passion for wanting to be a nurse/healthcare worker and your purpose. When I applied, I believe they were basing the admission on only our GPA and our passion/purpose statements that we had to write. It wasn’t required at the time for us to take the HESI for admission. I’m not sure if they’ll require it when you apply but make sure your prepared just in case. Once your accepted, make sure you print out your degree plan. It’ll have all the classes your supposed to take broken up into different categories depending on the semester so you can easily follow along when it’s time to register and throughout your time at chamberlain.

My tuition was not as expensive as I thought it would be. I believe that the nursing classes cost more than the pre-reqs though. I like it here but I’ve ran into problems with student services and I also had a terrible Professor for one of my classes last semester. Always check rate my Professor before registering for classes. Also, I wouldn’t say the HESI was hard but it’s very time consuming. They had us take it after we were already accepted and it was entirely online. Depending on when you plan on applying and the fact that the campuses are still closed, you may have to take it online as well. The science and english sections weren’t difficult but math isn’t my strong suit and I struggled a bit. It has a lot of conversions, which threw me off, but the algebra was pretty easy.

They told you exactly right! I took majority of my pre-reqs at HCC and received my associate degree so I’ll be finished with chamberlain next September. I don’t have a list but to my knowledge A&P, Speech, Ethics, English 1301, and Philosophy are just some of the pre-reqs. I will advise you to make sure that you pass A&P with either an A or a B. They will let you get by with science classes if you earn a C but only if you pass the HESI with a 72 or higher for that section. I didn’t do well in A&P at HCC so I had to retake A&P 1 at chamberlain my first semester. I passed the HESI for that section so I didn’t have to take the second part of it. Also, chamberlain breaks up the A&P classes into four sections. Lastly, I would ask them about whether or not it’s necessary for you to take nutrition. I took it at HCC and my advisor at chamberlain said the credit was non-transferable towards my degree plan because chamberlain has their own nutrition class that they require you to complete and subsequently pass.

Hi! I currently attend the pearland campus and I hope my advice can be somewhat helpful towards your journey to nursing school. I really feel like you would benefit from finishing your pre-reqs at San Jacinto and then applying to Chamberlain. It may actually knock some of the time off that you’ll have to spend at Chamberlain and you can jump straight into the nursing classes because your pre-reqs will already be out of the way.

Hello! I applied for the pearland campus around the beginning of this month and it took them quite a while to process my application. I understand that we're in the middle of a pandemic and I was told that the committee only meets on Friday but I drove myself crazy looking through threads and psyching myself out. I emailed my advisor two days ago and he called me within an hour later and told me I was deemed academically eligible for the September 2020 session. The only thing that's left for me to do is to complete my background and drug test and talk to my financial advisor about my schedule and payment for classes. I haven't received my acceptance letter in the mail but I've seen on other threads where students have said that you technically aren't accepted until you complete your drug/background test so hopefully in another two weeks I'll be getting my letter in the mail. CONGRATS on getting accepted as well! I don't know you but I'm so proud of you! For anyone else who might come upon this thread and you're worried about the status of your acceptance because you haven't heard anything, I would email or call your advisor and ask them about it. They're supposed to call us and tell us the decision the committee has made and walk us through our next steps per what the website states. My advisor submitted my application on the 10th and the committee met on the 12th so I probably would've known sooner had I not been waiting on my advisor to call me and tell me the decision himself but he didn't until after I reached out to him. You really don't want to sit around and wait because you do have to speak to a student advisor about how you're going to pay for your classes and submit a FAFSA application if you're using financial aid, complete your drug/background check, get your schedule, and do your online readiness assessment. I also read that they can cap you for the semester your applying for and make you reapply for the next semester if everything isn't completed in a timely manner so if it's been longer than two-three weeks and you haven't heard anything please get in contact with your advisor! Good luck to everyone who applied and CONGRATS to those of you who got in!
