Chamberlain college of nursing...arlington campus...

U.S.A. Virginia

I am looking into going to chamberlain at the arlington campus this fall...anyone else looking here or know much about the school? I just started looking into it and might go take a look around the school next week. I have heard mixed reviews about the school in general. Some love it some say the pass rates are low and it's a waste of money. Just trying to get a feel for what the school is really like. It's really the only nursing program close enough to me that is not a 4yr program. I LOVE the fact that they have a 3yr bachelors program which is what i had been looking for. Any advice/comments are appreciated!! Oh also any comments on the entrance exam?

Have you attended any of their open houses? They have one coming up on May 4th from 6p to 8p.

The open houses are quite helpful and their professors mean business. they are in it with you until the end and want you to succeed. The tuition is another story but it is worth it. They have been accredited and are just preparing a press release to let the public know. You can also call them at 7034167300 and ask to speak with an advisor who will answer most of your questions. Hope that helps. I have been accepted for the July start date and can't express my excitement.:yeah::yeah::yeah:. Good luck in your decision making.

Thanks so much for the info. I will check out the info session in May. Did you have your prereqs done? Are you an LPN already?

Thanks again for the info and best of luck to you!!!:D

No I am not an LPN but I do have all my pre-reqs done. All I have left is the nursing courses.

Their BSN takes 3 years to complete if you don't have any prereqs done at all. If you have most of them done you will be there for two years. They have three semesters (no summers off) a year.

So I'm in my seconnd semester at Chamberlain. I can say that I continue to be satisfied with my choice! It is quite a bit spendy however, as a previous person said well worth it. I will begin all nursing courses starting next semester.. I am loking forward to that!

Hi NicoleLee,

Are you and LPN and or did you transfer any prereqs in? did you have to take the HESI A2 test? Was that difficult? I am glad to hear you are happy with Chamberlain, i am visisting the school in early April. Thanks for all the information! Best of luck to you!!!!:nurse:

Hi dmr2492,

I transferred in 31 credits. No, I am not an LPN. I had been taking pre-req's at a community college for some time. There are some students in some of my classes that are LPN's. Yes, I did take the HESI A2 I didn't think it was too bad. I would suggest the book that is available for review, it was very helpful. Feel free to contact me with anymore questions- hope to see you soon!

Hi nicolelee

Could you tell me how the schedule is like?

Is it pretty flexible like you would expect from other colleges or set schedule?

I am currently in lpn program with 8-2 mon-thur schedule and it is kinda hard

sometimes..

It would definitely help me big time to make up my mind!!!

Thanx in advance!!! :)

Hi FreeMiki,

Well I haven't yet started clinicals so I'm not sure what that schedule is going to look like. The GenEd courses i'm taking are pretty flexible and there is always the online option if you prefer to go online. I can say that there's a pretty good variety of times for courses and they are really good about helping you move things around to make it work. I hope this helps... I will say most classes meet once weekly and are kind of a hybrid of online. i hope that helps some. Feel free to ask more questions.

I am an LPN thinking of going to Chamberlain at the arlington campus. I wanted to start in the Summer 2011 but have a vacation planned in july for 3 days so I am planning on the Fall 2011. I am very nervous because of the cost of the school along with its a new school. I have requested all my transcripts to be sent to Chamberlain did my financial aide but have not paid the 95 admissions fee. How bad is that test that you must pass to get accepted? Is the money worth the education? Where are the clinicals? What is the schedule ? I want to get my RN degree ASAP and have been attending community colleges. It almost seems like a waste to continue to go to an community college to recieve a 2yr degree and thats if you get accepted into the program. I hope this makes sense to someone out there please help with any advice. Thank you

Im in the same boat too.

Ive been taking pre reqs for what seems like forever and I'm just not going to give up 2 more years of my life to these community colleges. 3 years or more for associates? Ugh...I'm done with them, I call nova the place of broken dreams because that's what it does to most people. I want a bachelors too amd I'm a bit scared to go there because if they lose their accreditation before i get into a master program il be so screwed :(

Buttt today I'm heading over to check it out at 2.

diamondhope,

You are thinking about them losing accredation before they are even accredited. They have provisional approval from the BON right now and I have no doubt that after a couple of years (two classes taking and passing the NCLEX), the will be accredited. Check out their other campuses across the States, they've been doing very, very well. Chamberlain, Arlington will or are striving to maintain their standard of education to make sure that all students are well prepared not only to pass boards but also to practice in healthcare.

i am with you on what Nova does to people, Ugh!

dcgirl01,

Your vacation shouldn't stop you from starting out this summer (unless you have all pre reqs done). They will customize your schedule based on whether or not you need gen-ed courses. so if you have any that you havent' done or won't transfer, then chances are you will be starting out with those. Their fall term starts sometime in Novemeber, I think. About the Hesi, it is an easy entrance exam, atleast easier than the TEAs for sure (IMO). I bought the book and studied for a good three hours then took the exam and score a 91% average. Chemistry is what let me down because I barely spent time on that section. I recommend the book. Here's a breakdown:-

Math

Eng:- Grammar, voc, comprehension

Science:- A&P, chem, Bio

clue, 50% of math questns on my test looked like this,

2:X :: 4:8 (FIND x). You can tackle it whichever way you want , +, -, x or /

the rest is word problems, some fractions, a good chunk of measurements like

how many tsp make a tbsp? Oz, ml, litres etc if you get that down you are safe. People freak out about math a lot of the times that's why I chose to hint you guys on the math. Good luck.

By the way, I still have my hesi book, I was going to sell it at amazon. If none of you have bought one, you can buy mine (i used it for three hrs so still as good as new - am happy to meet u anywhere.)

excuse any (sp) I was in a hurry.

Youaremymiracle,

I actually wasnt talking about the bon, but now that you mention that I am more worried lol. I was talking about regional accreditation which I need to get into a masters program at a state school. But wow thanks for the heads up on the boa, wow I totally assumed they were already!
