Hi. Welcome to allnurses.com

My 1st suggestion to you is to know 1st w/c state/s you plan to work and live as not all states require the CGFNS exam. Majority of foreign nurses are even specifically going to states that do not need the CGFNS exam to be able to get licensed in that state as that will save then time and money.

There will be more people giving there opinions on your thread as well so sit tight and enjoy your stay here at allnurses.com.

if you are to take cgfns... i suggest review the CGFNS study guide that will be sent to you when you apply for the exam. that book will give you an idea on the format or types of the questions given in cgfns test. when i took cgfns last nov 2006, i studied by myself with the help of saunders comprehensive review. it took me 2 months to study. lucky me coz i applied early so i knew i was rostered more than a month before the exam date. i know people who got rostered only about 2 weeks before the test. so make sure you submit complete requirements early so that you can prepare well. good luck to you! :)

CGFNS will send their own book to you once you have been approved to take the exam. That is the best one out there for the exam.

But again, the exam is not recommended unless you are going to a state that requires it. There are only a handful that require it, not all as the agencies in PI will tell you. There is no other reason to take the exam, it will not benefit you in anyway. And preparation for the CGFNS exam is very different from preparation for the NCLEX exam.

I used kaplan review book and CGFNS study guide in order to pass the exam. Godbless to you...

i read the CGFNS book more than 5 times. i passed the exam.

be familiar with the topics you encountered in the book and concentrate on them.good luck

unless you are going to work in one of the states that actually requires it, and that is only a handful; do not waste your time preparing for it.

it does not help you in any way shape or form. it has no use. if you are going to work in the us, then focus on passing the licensing exam for the us, and that is definitely not the cgfns exam. and if it is an agency that is telling you that you need to take it, run from them.

i passed the cgfns exam last march 2007 and i used NSNA plus the book that CGFNS sent to me.i think that's enough.

nice infos keep it up

I also passed my CGFNS last March and I self-studied. I studied for both the NCLEX and CGFNS and used NCSBN online review for 12 weeks and Saunders Comprehensive Review and NCLEX Made Incredibly Easy CD-ROM practice tests.

But follow what Suzanne adviced. If you're thinking or planning to work in a state that does not require CGFNS, then why bother reviewing for it when you can directly apply for the NCLEX?
