HI everyone..

I have a question...

I am confused about CEU's and contact hours.....

I need 10 CEU's for my RN renewal, I have done 2 online things that say they are each equal to 1.5 "contact hours".... whats the difference? Are the two equal?(contact hours and ceu's) Help!!! I need to finish them by this weekend!!!!

Thanks!!!

If you're sitting in a class, 1 CE usually equals 1 contact hour. If you're doing an on line deal, or a mail order deal, you have to look at the number of CE's it offers because the contact hours are different.

One contact hour is equal to 0.1 CEU's...A contact hour is considered 50 minutes of classroom education (whether it be lecure, hands-on, discussion, etc)...So, 10 contact hours is equal to 1 CEU...If you have done 1.5 contact hours then you have 0.15 Continuing education units...

Hope this helps...There numerous free contact hours on the internet...you might try Medscape.com, CME courses.com, I think all require registeration with a valid email, but the certificates are printable on most sights (meaning you do not have to wait until they send them to you)

Hope this helps...

Check with your board of nursing. That is always safest. there is always a danger of misinformation here and when your license is at stake, go to the source.

I agree, check with your state board. My state just changed requirements, it used to be a minimum number of hours worked to renew, now it is hours worked or contact hours.

My state requires 30 Contact Hours to renew in a 2 year period.

After I read these postings, I thought I just wasted my time since mine are contact hours, but when I went to the web site it is contact hours that they require in my state.

Good luck!

I would check with your state BON.

In California, one CE UNIT is equivalent to 10 contact HOURS.

For example, if you were to complete a 3 unit college class that is approved by the BON, you would be completing 30 contact hours.

I agree with others, I just forgot to mention going to you state's BON website, you can find a listing on NCSBN.COM with links to them...TX requires 20 contact hours every 2 years...And each state may have different values for each contact hour (I know in TX it is considered 50 minutes of classroom time (lecture, hands-on, etc, because I have revised many continuing education applications)...

I would check you BON website...

Q.

How many continuing education units does the Board require?

A.

The Board requires Ten (10) continuing education hours per renewal cycle (every two Years).

Q.

Some courses are offered in units of hours. How is this measured to meet the Board’s continuing education requirement?

A.

One continuing education unit (CEU) is equivalent to ten (10) continuing education hours. One continuing education hour is equivalent to one (1) contact hour.

ok... here it is.... please, dont think I am dumb... but Im not getting it. what do I have to do>? How many "contact hours" do I need for this requirement? all of the online things I take say "contact hours" ... so how many do I need for this requiremment above??? (i took it from my states bon website)

thanks so much!!!!!!!!
