Is anyone out there currently attending the nursing program at CAC? If so, would you let me know where you have your clinicals?
Thanks!

I don't start until August, but I know that they do some clinicals at Casa Grande Regional Medical Center.
Thanks for your reply! That is what I was thinking, but was hoping they might also be at some of the hospitals in the east valley.
Did you get right in, or have to wait a semester?
I applied in October for the January class. I was still taking my CNA class. I had my interview in December and was told I would probably not have my certification for CNA until after school started, so I would probably be given a place in August. My CNA class was not over until November and my testing was not until the end of December.
So technically, I had to wait a semester, but only because I did not have my CNA number yet.

Congrats finally starting your nursing journey. I am taking the CNA course through RSAA in November, and bio202 in September. So, won't be able to apply for the January start. Will have everything done for the Aug 09 start though. That is, unless I get into the part-time program in January at Gateway....yeah, that wil happen...LOL!

Congratulations on getting in. I think you will enjoy it. It's a small town atmosphere with some fabulous professors. I am beginning my 3rd semester and have had clinicals at Casa Grande, PHX Children's and Maricopa Medical (Downtown). I know other sites are Banner Thunderbird (West Side!!!), Banner Baywood. There is even talk about going down Tucson way. Basically, clinical sites are so hard to come by that you take what you get and don't complain about it (well you can complain but it won't change anything!). PM me if you have any other specific questions and congrats again!
Hi, I started this thread and appreciate so much you giving us all this info. You are 1/2 way through! Can't wait to be there. Sounds like you are having a wonderful experience. Wow, clinicals are all over the place aren't they? How was your experience at the Casa Grande hospital and Maricopa med? Have your clinicals only been at hospitals? I know it probably changes from semester to semester, but what days are you in class and what days are in clinicals? I am so excited to apply to the program. Just have to take the 202 and the CNA courses. Still another year out before I would actually begin, but I plan on taking the Nutrition and Psy 203 in the meantime to get those out of the way. By the time I enter the program Aug09, I will only have the nursing core classes left.
Oh, one more question, and it is a dumb one, but on the course outline there is a requirement for a one credit PE course. I don't find the designation PE for any of the courses at the college. Do you know what that would be?
Thanks again!

A Physical Education course of at least 100 or higher. They have things like deep water kick boxing... show up to the gym to work out independantly. Stuff like that. I have a few friends that took some PE courses there and according to the designation for the degree thats all that is required.
Rhcmarrie,
I got your PM but for the life of me, can't figure out how to reply to it. If you feel comfortable, can you PM me your email and I will be more than happy to respond to your questions about the program. Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

Chihmom8, Congrats to you in beginning your nursing journey. Seriously, before you know, you'll be in the thick of it and working through the program. Good idea on getting all your co-reqs done beforehand. The nursing classes are challenging and most would agree that being able to focus on them solely is extremely beneficial.
All of my clinical experiences have been great. CG is a bit slow, but that was my first clinical, so it was a nice way to ease into the nursing role. Maricopa is AWESOME. There is such diversity there, I learned so much. Yes, all of my clinicals have been at hospitals, but I know some have had hospice as well as time in clinics. You will always have one lecture day. Each semester is different after that. Your first semester will have a few more days spent on campus for lab practicums, etc and your second semester will include a day for Pharmacology lecture (not the whole day though). Again, things can always change, so staying flexible is the name of the game. There have been recent administrative changes, so things might be shuffled a bit. Let me know if you have any other questions. If you want to PM me your email, I will email you from my personal email. Good luck to you.
ok, 12 more to go...haha, thx for the info Irishman.
