Cedars-Sinai July 2014 New Grad Cohort

Published

Hi all! I know it is early since they are still contacting people, but I wanted to start a thread for those of us who are starting in the new grad cohort at Cedars-Sinai on July 7, 2014. I know there are at least several of us who are relocating from NoCal and will be looking for roommates or advice on where to live, etc. I am hoping this will be an easy way for us to network and share information as we make our plans and get ready to start.

Congratulations to everyone and thanks for any questions, tips or advice. So. .

Is there anyone out there looking for a roommate?

Anyone local have tips for us regarding where to look for a safe, commutable place to live?

Anyone have tips on getting around town? Is a car essential?

I received a call last night in regards to my background check. The HR lady on the phone needed more information about some of my past jobs. I also got the skills survey email for reference check. I imagine once our references and background check are complete, then maybe they will send us the official job offer documents.

Hm... hopefully sending out the offer letters is not contingent on the references/employer verification! I asked HR to give me time to personally resign from my current position (instead of hearing it through them).

I got a call today to complete the online app to authorize them to do the background check. I also received the references e-mail. The HR lady also said she would call in the next few weeks for drug screening and the physical.

I wish I knew what unit I'll be working on.

I'm glad to see all the participation on this thread. It helps to know that everyone is getting the same emails and I am not missing anything. I too got the call and application/authorization and references email. Was anyone else told that they would be getting another email about the drug screen? From what the HR lady said I thought this would come through today but I haven't seen anything.

Who are you all listing for your references? I looked at the questions and it seems like they want clinical supervisors or faculty to weigh in, which rules out the researchers and non-clinical faculty I have worked with. Any thoughts? When I asked my HR contact she didn't seem very sure about it.

Is anybody on this thread relocating? I am going to stay with friends in Irvine for the first few weeks but that is super far away. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

InnerSprite, I'm relocating from Bay Area (I think you said you are too?). I'm going down one weekend at the end of the month to look at apartments. My friends who live in the area said a lot of places are for immediate move-in, so even though I've been checking out craigslist, it's a bit early for that.

As for references, I'm still racking my brain! I think they for sure want clinical instructors, but I have 2 so far and debating if I should be asking previous managers even though I didn't work in a clinical setting. Maybe if the HR contact is not sure either, they won't be super strict on who you ask. Did they say when we should be submitting our references by?

Has anyone received an official offer letter yet via email? Or heard back from HR about signing paperwork or anything?

No, I got an email from hireright w a copy of my background check.

I also receieved an email from

HireRight with my background check. No offer email or other news tho.

Someone I know who started the new grad program earlier this year said, HR will contact us to set up an appt to meet with them as well as Employee Health for our physical After we complete the application and references. The day we go in for the physical is when we will sign all the official documents for the residency program.

Perfect! Thanks for the info :)

I was told by HR that after background check, next one is drug test (email will be sent around 1st week of June for info - through hireright). Then, 3rd week of June is when we do our Physical...that's when we can also turn in our orig. transcript, and other docs that they request.
