CCAC Spring 2010

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Just curious if any who have applied have heard if they've been accepted to CCAC Nursing program for Spring 2010 admittance?

Also, does anyone out there know what the likelihood is of getting your fist choice?

Thank you Choco for sharing! I know that some schools require a CPR certificate. Are we going to need that to start the program?

From what I hear (there's a woman in my office who used to be in the CCAC nursing program, but failed out), you need to be CPR certified before the program starts. Certification needs to be in both adult and child/infant. You also need a criminal background check, fingerprints, child abuse clearances, physical, titers, tb test.... That's all I know of, and I hope it's not more, that's plenty to deal with already!! I already have my criminal background check and child abuse clearances (had to get them for my job very recently), so I'm hoping those are acceptable. Also made an appointment with my doctor for my physical/titers towards the end of November (I can't really go without the forms for the physical, but making the appointment at least made me feel like I was doing SOMETHING to get prepared). Getting CPR certified next weekend :D

So i'm not the only one thinking of getting a head start on the required stuff? Should we wait on the drug test and TB tests? Also does anyone know where we can do the CPR certification? :crying2:

I would definitely wait on any of the medical stuff (physical, titers, drug test, TB) in case you have to have certain forms for documentation or something. I know that the drug test has to be done within a specific period of time (i.e., if you do it too early, it doesn't count).

I'm taking my CPR class through the Red Cross. You can look at their schedule of classes by going to http://swpa.redcross.org/Take_a_Class.php. Some UPMC facilities offer CPR classes; you can call (412) 647-5300 to try to get a schedule of classes. I called them a couple of times and never managed to get a response, so I just went with the Red Cross. I've also heard that some local fire departments occasionally offer CPR classes and are a lot cheaper (around $35 dollars, I believe), so you might want to check in your area.

I forgot about the CPR since I became CPR certified at my job (AHA). In the letter that was sent, it did say to take a CPR class as soon as possible since they fill up quickly.

Serenity is right. You have to wait until a certain date until you can get your drug tests. One of my classmates had gotten her drug test before she was supposed to and the school would not accept the results. Once you get your acceptance letter you will get your information packet that'll tell you everything.

When you go to the health department for your titers, it would be a good idea to go as soon as it opens because it can get crowded. You can get your 2-step TB test done there for free. Don't wait until the last minute to do that. After you get your first TB test read, you have to get a 2nd one and wait about a week to get that read.

There's a CCAC Fall 2009 thread that has more info.

Thank You for all of the information chocobean! You have been a big help. I went to my campus nursing office today and told the secretary that with the delay of notification I was worried about everything we needed to do. I asked her if it was possible to get started on some things and she gave me a couple forms. My question is are all the clearances act 34, act 151 and act 114. I recieved some information from my children's school about this as well if you want to volunteer at the school you need clearances, anyway act 34 is (state criminal check) act 151 is (state child abuse) and act 114 is (federal criminal that includes finger prints). Just making sure these are all of the clearaces before I get started..........Thanks Betty

I can't remember the exact numbers for the clearnances. I just looked at my papers and I have one one for child abuse, criminal background, and fingerprints.

I don't know if they told you at the nursing office, but you can get your criminal background check online (you just print out a copy of the report). It's quick and easy and then one less thing you have to worry about. The website is: https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp

thanks for the info serenity!!! the background check literally took like 5 minutes!!! :)

I have a question, on the cogenid website for fingerprinting, when you register what do you list as the reason? The closest thing I could find is "employment with the possibility of child care interaction" And we do apply under the department of public welfare right, not department of education?

I am on the website now you go under DPW and the selection you made is correct employment with significant likelihood of regular contact with children. The nursing office at south is B-633 they will give you the child abuse history form or you can prtint it off the internet at: www.psp.state.pa.us form # cy-113........I hope someone gets their letter today! I am keeping my fingers crossed.....
