Hi Sam! Congratulations! I will be concentrating on the circulating role 1st then learning to scrub. How is scrubbing going? I will be really nervous when I get to that part.

Thank you so much for your input! I wanted to be in the OR ever since my 1st semester of nursing school when I got to see an open heart surgery! I really love being in the OR so far! I have a great preceptor who is teaching me well. It is definitely a lot to learn. I will be concentrating on the Circulating Nurse role 1st then I will learn to scrub. I started with learning where everything is and picking for each case and then setting up the rooms. I am learning the equipment and how to use it as well. I just started today with learning the instruments so I know what they are for proper counts. I am doing all the time-outs and charting for our cases and learning how to multitask for the surgeries to keep things going smoothly. Everyone has been very welcoming in this OR. I met a lot of the staff when I did my mentorship which helps. I love being an OR Nurse!! :)

Hi everyone! I am about to start my new position in the OR tomorrow! I have been a member of all nurses for a while now. Have not been able to post for sometime. I graduated from nursing school in December. I landed a job at a hospital that I had done clinicals at. I did my mentorship during the last 5 weeks of school in this hospital's OR, but they would not place a GN in the OR.(I loved my mentorship in the OR!) So I took a position on Med-Surg and worked on PCU for a couple of weeks. I passed my boards in March and now here I am! I got the job that I wanted! I am excited to be an OR nurse and would appreciate any advice or tips to help me along the way as l learn my new position. Betty :)

Congrats to everyone!!! I will be graduating in December! I would like to work in the OR. I am continuing my education to get a BSN and then hopefully my MSN. My ultimate goal is to be a Nurse Educator.

Well the 1st semester is over!! It was great but nerve racking at times, thankfully most of us made it! Looking forward to a great summer and I can't wait to start NRN 102 in the fall!!!

Rebecca, I am so happy for you!!! I just got done with NRN 101 I passed with a "B"! I am so glad that I got through my 1st semester of nursing school!! It was nerve racking at times but it was great!!! I am actually going to miss being in nursing classes for the summer, especially clinical! I love clinical!! Have a great summer!!! When I had A&P 1 and A&P 2, my instructor gave us pictures to study with labels on them and an extra copy that was not labeled. I would just make copies and keep practicing until I got it right. There is also a website called purposegames.com. It was very helpful to me it has all kinds of games to fill in the labels of pictures by clicking and it will tell you if you are right. I played alot of games!!! It worked well for me and I got a "B" in A&P 1 and an "A" in A&P 2. If you can't find labeled pictures to study copy them out of your book and make your own. Good Luck! I just wanted to say oops! I probably did not help you at all! I am sorry the problem did not look familar to me because we are not on that section of dosing it is coming up in the next couple of weeks! I looked ahead in my book...........Sorry again I was just trying to be helpful.

I just started nursing school & I am in my 1st semester. Normally the questions I am given state an order, what is on hand and the quantity. The normal procedure I am being taught to use is: D/H x Q = what you administer. Maybe I am reading your question wrong but there does not seem to be a unit listed (mg, mcg, etc..) for what you have on hand. The formula D/H x Q is common for figuring out dosages. I received a clinical calculations book to study from and it came with a cd that has been a big help, there is also a cd with my fundamentals book that we use all the time that also has dosage practice on it. Check some of the cd's that came with your books or the websites for your books they have good resources too. I hope this helps.

Hi there! I am in my 1st semester of nursing school, I am a single mom with 3 children ages 2, 8 & 11. I know how you feel being worried about juggling all of it. Let me give you my schedule I am in nursing classes tuesdays thru fridays and a math class for 4 hours on sundays. There is definitely a lot of studying to do. I study when I can and I made myself kind of a schedule. I am not in school on mondays and the children are at school and baby is in daycare on mondays so I study a lot on that day. I know that you are a stay at home mom with no time to yourself from the sounds of it. You can do it you just have to figure out what works for you. Even though I do a lot of studying on mondays. I still have to study other days. I find that what works really well for me is to study at night when the kids are sleeping. I am not going to lie to you I am up pretty late some nights. I also have my morning routine set so that on the days I go to class I get there early to look over notes or practice skills in the skill lab. You will figure out a way to make it all work. I know that you said your husband is not much help, but trust me when I say what ever help he gives you however little will be a help for you to get some time to study. You will meet people in school in the same boat as you maybe you will meet another student who has kids too and you can get together for the kids to play while you both study. I am lucky that my oldest is 11 she helps me a lot when I just need an hour to myself I go into another room and she keeps an eye on the 2 yr old for me so that I can study. If you really want to become a nurse you will do whatever you need to do to make it happen..........Good luck!

Hi Rebecca! I am so glad to hear that you passed the PAX and did really well too!! Congrats on getting a great score. I am glad that your classes are going well. I am sure that you will do just fine and get into the program for fall. I know that you will!! I definitely agree that you get out of learning the material what you put into it! You seem very committed & you will do great because of that! I had a great week last week even though we had 3 tests. It went great! I am doing better with testing as I go along and right now I have a "B" over all which I am happy about! I hope to keep it up. I am always striving for an "A", but I don't know that I will get "A" in the class from what I am told it is very difficult to get an "A". I will keep striving and continue to do my best. We had a test on abbreviations this past week. If you want to be ahead of the game you may want to start learning medical abbreviations we had to learn about 80 or so abbreviations. The test was only on 20 of them. (I missed 1) If you want to practice abbreviations I have the list and a test that I made up for myself to study from.
