CCAC Spring 2015 Hopefuls

Published

Hi All!

Just sending out a good luck huzzah to everyone applying for the Spring 2015 cohort at the Community College of Allegheny County.

We can start applying tomorrow and the the deadline is August 15.

I am all done with my pre-reqs and co-reqs, so am excited to get this application process rolling. I am going tomorrow to meet with an advisor to be sure all of my ducks are in a row.

Anyone else out there applying?

Medexpress charges $25 for the TB Test if you tell them you are a ccac nursing student, and the Heath department is pretty reasonable in Oakland for the rest of the immunizations, I think I paid $112 for all except my 2nd and 3rd hep B bc I got them at my work for free.

And if you have your titers drawn and you show immunity you do not need vaccinated again so that helps. I believe I had titers drawn for that price above actually, then I only had to pay for tb at medexpress

EnjoyCPR is held at the Doubletree hotel in Monroeville, it is $64 and the instructor was awesome and very informative, cpr classes fill up fast everywhere so I would sign up for that sooner then later.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will get the titers done first and go to medexpress for the tb test- thats the cheapest I've been able to find it. I took the EnjoyCPR class in Monroeville back in March and agree the instructor was awesome, but unfortunately it was not for healthcare professionals and certified profile would not accept it...so I will have to retake it. So much to do, so little time!

Just got off the phone with medexpress.... they have a contract with CCAC so most stuff is discounted.... $20 for a physical, $25 for TB test, and $30 for a flu shot just in case anyone needs these done.

Is this for people without insurance?? Im confused the cdc and my insurance say all vaccines are covered becaus they are preventive. ???

Yes... it is for people who don't have insurance. Your insurance will most likely pay for the immunizations, but if the reason you go to the MD is for a school physical, it might not be covered. At least thats what my insurance told me. Now if you make an appointment to make sure that you are up to date with immunizations and the flu shot that might be a different story. It's all in how they bill it to your insurance.

Oh man lol so its kind of a wait and see thing with insurance then....that stinks! Thanks for clarifying.... I am so confused with whats going to be covered a d whats not. I know med express said no insurance coverage for shots or titers so that made me even mire confused. Ahh the stress of it all already lol!

No problem! Just to make sure I would call your insurance and tell them what the situation is and they can let you know for sure. Medexpress has a list of everything that we need priced out for CCAC so you will be able to compare beforehand.

Yeah maybe medexpress does them because they have contract with CCAC and they know some people don't have insurance. Everything depends on your insurance. Mine would not pay for my tetorifice for example, luckily my work did

was everyone charged $129 for certified background because in the info packet it didnt seem like thats what it would cost.
