CCAC Fall 2012 Applicants

Published

Hello,

Is anyone else in the process of applying for CCAC for fall? Right now I'm waiting for the office to finish pulling up all of my transcripts and paperwork so that I can turn in my application. I'm doing the LPN to RN, so if I get accepted I should be graduating with the class that is currently in the program. Anyone else doing LPN to RN? I'm hoping to be accepted at Allegheny. That's where I've done all of my prereq classes. My second choice is South Campus.

Do you have a degree already Jas101? If you need to wait another semester there are many classes that would help in the nursing program. Pathophysiology and medical terminology are two that come to mind right away.

I am going to pm you some info as well.

My admission packet came today!!! Lots to do!!!:)

sewnmom ..do you have to go to the uniform fitting or can yopu just go and buy them whenever?

also did you turn everything in one by one ..or all in at once

Yes you can go right to one of their stores. They may not always have all the sizes right there to try on (they have a traveling rack they bring to the fitting). I went to the fitting but I am going to take my daughter to the store. Also I bought Landau dark blue pants on a clearance rack at a scrub place for 6 bucks. Just make sure it is the LANDAU brand. I bought those as extras.

Also dont turn in anything alone. You have to take it in or mail it. I would suggest going there and handing it in. they will make copies of it (at least they did at allegheny) and then tell you if it was ok. You will get a letter letter saying if something is missing.

It takes a few weeks for the scrubs to come in - I just bought extras and they had them in stock but it still took over a week from lower burrell.

the one store in bloomfield is easy to get to but parking is on the street.

I didn't know if it was mandatory to go to ccac's fitting or not ...If I can go to bloomfield and just try them on that would be easier because I work the day of the fitting ...I work 3 12s ...nursing is obviously more important and I would find a way to get off if I had to go to the fitting but I already wear scrubs so I pretty much know what size I am however all brands fit different. We have to have everything in by July 16th ..I want to start scheduling things but I obviously have to wait until 8am Monday. Thanks for everything ..I am going to be only taking my nursing courses since I have everything done ...I'm a smart kid lol but do you think it would be wise to work part time while I am in school? I feel like the three 12s make it easy to work Fulltime and go to school full time but I know nursing is totally different I just don't know what to do.. if you have any advice on that please let me know I greatly appreciate everything!

On the scrub fitting - you do not have to go (at least we didnt two semesters ago). You can mail in your order or take it to the store.

As far as working - it is tough to work and do nursing only but many in my class do it. You must maintain a 75 to pass. C = RN is the motto. I have a large family and run a home based business. There are days I am burning the candle out.

If you can afford to not work, I would suggest that. Maybe keep working and then when it gets too tough, pull back. The first 101 test (and they are changing the curriculum) is recall. There are some nclex style questions but not a lot. The second test is a shock because it is all nclex. See how it goes once you get into a few of the tests. You can always cut back later.

I would suggest keeping on top of things. Read your notes every day. Review. Make sure you understand everything. There are many websites out there that help. Open lab helps. Make a few friends that study like you do and meet with them regularly. We meet well before the tests are scheduled - this forces us to have the recall info memorized and then it is easier to study. Makes us be responsible to be up to par.

Biggest thing: Don't be discouraged if you dont do as well as you thought on an exam. Look at the questions you missed and find those kinds of questions for the next exam to practice. The select all that apply are killers. I finally got to the point where I miss one or none of those on my exams. I practice them religiously.

Keep plugging away.

Thanks for the info and advice.. I can't wait to start. I want to buy my books as soon as I find out what we are supposed to study. I plan on studying over the summer!

I am finishing up 102 evening/weekend. I work 40 hours and have been able to keep good grades. There are a lot of us in this situation in the evening/weekend program. Don't fret! You will get tired and have no life sometimes, but it's all right. Take it a semester at a time and you'll be done before you know it. Also, I recommend making copies of ALL paperwork you give them. They aren't the most organized. Good luck everyone!

Thanks... I work three 12s so do you think its do-able I guess I should make that call after registration but everything is so new to me!! I worked Fulltime when I took micro, AP1, math 108 and my nana died in the same semester..I ended up with 2 As and a B and I know how hard it was then...I just have know idea hoe hard it is going to be for me now ..I guess noone can really help me with it but I think going part time just to be safe would be best :)

Excuse the spelling errors that's wonderful auto correct lol

I know people who work 3 12s and are fine. (Keep in mind this is my program. I think they are restructuring things.) The second year is the difficult one since you have clinical two days a week. I know some people who have no choice but to work M-F and have clinicals Sat-Sun. That is definitely not for me! Sounds like you'll do just fine since you were able to keep up with your busy schedule before. I also have a friend who works overnights and is able to do well. It's different for everyone. If you think you're up for it then you probably are!
